Quiz: What type of literary melancholy are you?

I cannot resist the world 'melancholy.'

What kind of literary melancholy are you?

My result: British interwar melancholy

Your melancholy stems from the fact that you are almost certainly an unspeakable of Oscar Wilde sort. You are fond of Forster, Ford, Waugh, Graves, and Huxley, and are caught between the idealism and nostalgia of golden years past and look with dread upon an uncertain future. You are prone to fits of tears and reminisce fondly upon your (imagined) time at Oxbridge. You long for touch and to be touched more than you will care to admit.

Guilty on all counts. Sob! :)

I am mid-20th century american melancholy:

you are feeling the weight of modernity on your shoulders, and it is crushing. you identify with the melancholy of mccullers, didion, thoreau, kerouac and others, with an acute awareness of the cruelty of the modern world and the longing to escape it. you long for an open sky and miles of nothing for eternity to achieve peace.

The last sentence certainly applies right now, anyway.
