There are many stories about werewolves and shapeshifters in folklore, let alone Hollywood and modern day fiction, for a writer to choose from or to create their own world. The random connection to a werewolf canon which isn't even a crossover with your fic seems bizarre and I also agree with you: Watson is vital but his role is as Holmes' biographer.
