Tea: Nil Nor by Mariage Fréres

So this is the last of the fancy teas from Mariage Fréres that the boys' father brought back from Paris ages ago. This one is called Nil Noir.



So it's a black tea scented with citrus and citronella. The fragrance is so strong you can smell it across the room, and the citronella, of course, makes me thing it's keeping the mosquitos away. I might drink it if, you know, all the Earl Grey in the world was somehow obliterated. But, yeah, I don't like it. But that's nothing new. I wish my palate were more sophisticated, but it isn't. I shan't ask for any more gift tins. My mind wants to like them, but my tongue says 'Yuk.'

But like the other two tins which made their ways into fics (Yunnan Imperial and Kept), this one will be featured in Relic Song, my upcoming Bertie Wooster goes to Egypt fic. It tastes like what I imagine Lem-sip to taste like, some kind of medicinal tea for respiratory diseases.

I only take Lemsip when I'm feeling sufficiently grim I don't care.

I've never drank your version of it, we have our own called Thera-flu. It's not bad, the boys' father prefers it to every other kind of medicine, but this tea is pretty strong so if you had a stuffy nose, you still could probably smell it. I had only opened the tin and Minisculus said (from the other room) "What's that SMELL?!"

I tend to stick to traditional teas and have enjoyed trying more exotic blends with odd additions, but rarely finish a pack:-)

I've told the boys' father not to buy anymore and I've resigned myself to the fact that the only tea I really like (and am going to drink) is Twinnings Ceylon Special in the orange box (which is about $3 at supermarkets) and I don't really care for anything else. I can drink an Earl Grey every now and then and a South American mate even more rarely, and a chamomile if I'm sick, but that's about it. C'est la vie :/

Hee! Maybe. But I think as soon as the fic it inspires (which I haven't even started yet) is done, it'll probably be binned. The other two have been :/ And I've told the boys' father not to bring me any more, even as a surprise.
