I got some really great word books at the library so Wordy Wednesday is going to get an upgrade. So the word of the day is...

...abstergent.

As an adjective meaning cleansing or scouring and as a noun as a substance doing the same. So not 'detergent' but 'abstergent.'

As in...

Applications of three different abstergents had no effect on the stain.
