Yahtzee Roll #6: Fill 3: A night in
Title: A night in
Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Pairing: Stella Hopkins/Sally Donovan
Rating: Gen
Length: 400
Prompt: extrovert
Summary: Sally suggests a night in.
“What was that, Aunt Dolly?”
This time Stella offered to take her grandmother’s friend to get her hair and nails done. The nursing home had beauty salon services, but it was considered a treat for residents to go out for such things.
Away from the nursing home, Stella felt no need to hide her curiosity, and Aunt Dolly did not find her questions unusual. Maybe she was just happy to gossip.
“That wasn’t Heather Badcock, my dear. That was her sister Mariana. Mariana is the extrovert. Heather is shy. I’ve never seen her in the activity room or wandering up and down the halls. She takes her meals in her room.”
“Does Heather tell riddles, too?”
“No, that’s just Mariana. Sometimes she switches to puns, and they are most annoying!”
“Were either of the sisters ever married?”
“Heather was. Her husband’s name was Arthur. I only remember because of my Arthur. Navy man. But Mariana never married.”
“Miss not Mrs,” said Stella thoughtfully. “Are they, um, in possession of their faculties?”
“What a lovely way of putting it! Yes, I think so. Peculiar but not senile. They are twins so they have their own way of communicating with one another.”
As soon as Stella could, she called Sally. She heard noise in the background.
“Are you at a party?” asked Stella incredulously. She looked at her watch. It was four in the afternoon!
“Send help! My sister had to take my nephew to his football tournament, so I was roped into taking my niece to her best friend’s birthday party.”
“How about another piece of the Gossington Manor Care puzzle to ponder? It might take your mind off your present condition.”
“Tell me.”
Stella did.
Sally snorted. “So the woman I interviewed wasn’t Heather Badcock at all! It was her twin sister Mariana. That’s reason enough for me to do a little digging and go back to see if Ms. Zielinsky has a good reason for lying to the police. That is what I will do tomorrow morning.”
“Oh, they are finishing up with Aunt Dolly. I’m taking her to a flower show, but afterwards, I’m free if you want to go out.”
“No, I am not a social butterfly on the best of days and these crazy kids have zapped what little energy I had. What do you think of a night in? Takeaway and crap telly.”
“Sounds perfect.”
