My Art: Inky Quill in a plague doctor mask

This is a painting I did today of my Original Character who is a porcupine poet named Inky Quill. Inky is an American expatriate living in Victorian London, specifically the zoo at Regent's Park. He is wearing a bright blue plague doctor mask and a green-and-pink bow tie.

Aw. Thanks. Yeah, I use my kids' paint set but I'd had this image in my head for a few days so I thought I'd try to get it down. It took 3 tries to get that.

This is brilliant. Naturally he would have a blue plague doctor's mask and I think the bow-tie is spot on!

Thank you! My anxiety about world affairs surfaced in a kind of surrealist image of Inky in his plague doctor mask. The boys' paint set had some bright, spring-like colours that I wanted to use. I didn't want the harshness and somber tones of a black mask. And Inky has a weakness for dapper bow ties (when he has speaking engagements).

Inky's mask will surely encourage others to maintain physical distance! ;^) I like his tie, as well.

Ha, ha! I think given the mask at one end and the spines at the other, folks should just give ol' Inky a really wide berth. I mean, social distancing come naturally, right?

It feels like a picture full of life and movement. Even with a mask on, Inky's personality comes through. And I love that, no matter what, he's determined to keep his sense of style ^_^

Thank you! Yes, I wanted to show that even in times of crises, Inky is Inky and maybe he thinks that adding the bowtie somehow mitigates the ominous quality of the mask. And, yes, he will meet the challenge in his own way.
