My poem: the sages say

Title: the sages say
Format: Italian sonnet
Length: 111
Rating: gen
Notes: a spiritual sonnet about the nature of self-realization and the concept of original goodness. maya is the lure and distortion of the material world

the sages say beneath the ego grime
is Pure is Good is One. the mystics tell
under the crusts of rusts, below the spell
of maya, is Love, not subject to time
or place or whim, beyond reason or rhyme.
innate, essential, a Truth to dispel
the myths of separateness, the fogs of hell,
and reveal the Self, absolute and sublime

no need, they cry, to cram the goodness in
no need, they sigh, to buy a loving heart,
no need to change a wardrobe or address
just end the false, and Truths begin
just rout ill will and Good will take its part,
so, in every age, the awake confess

Easily said, not so easily put into practice.
