Music Monday: Vesak song

Today is the first full moon in May so it is Vesak, the celebration of the birth of the Buddha. Although Buddhist teachings and the Dhammapada are part of my spiritual practice, I don't actually know many Buddhist songs. Please feel free to enlighten me if there is Buddhist inspired music you enjoy.

Today's word is: Buddha

18. What's something uncomfortable but you feel everyone should experience at least once in their life?

Skydiving! I also think we all need to have our blind spots and biases pointed out (as gently and as lovingly as possible) in order to discard them or work through them (however slowly).

Music Monday: give it to me by Agust D

I went to the county workforce center today to see if they could help me find a job! I was terrified. They showed me how to use their website and I got set up with an account but the lady I talked to (after I explained I'd been not working for 10 years) told me:

1. I looked depressed. 2. I was too soft spoken 3. I was too casually dressed for an interview (I had dress pants, earrings, flats, and lipstick on. I was TRYING, not enough apparently). 4. Asked me if I exercised because I was so low energy. 5. Recommended I talk a walk before an interview to raise my energy.

Good things to hear but, you know, tough stuff. Just getting through the door that place made me want to vomit.

So I came home and binged on chocolate turtles and here's Agust D because I'm wiped out.

3 Weeks 4 Dreamwidth Questions:

Day 4/28 APR How would you spend $1,000 to give the most happiness to the most number of people possible?

I suppose I could divide it between the 12 apartment units of the building I live in and (let's say 2 are unoccupied) and give everyone $100. Cash is good!

When I can't think of what music to post, I post BTS. This is the rapline doing Ugh! in Busan (the last concert before they started enlisting in the military).

Music Monday: Think by Aretha Franklin

And a poem!

Dressing the Body by Brittany Rogers

We—Detroit girls, Daughters of Motown—
knew before we saw the bronze casket

that Aretha would be dressed down;
some—Non-believers, Outsiders—

called it frivolous: two-day
viewing; eight-hour long service;

four outfit changes, each dress
more elaborate than the last.

Beautiful, beautiful gowns—accessorized
from jewels to pointed heels. I half-

expect her to break out a side eye
belt out a hymn to remind us

who the Queen is. There is,
of course, no such performance,

though we all huddle like crows,
waiting to see if she still looks

like herself. There is a protocol to this,
a right way to send

someone back to the lap of God.
Wearing their Sunday best.

So fancy they can be
mistaken for a bride.

Music Monday: I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight by Cutting Crew

I couldn't decide what to post today so I went to [personal profile] mx_morden's prompt list, and DAY 17 was Day 17 - A song that you hear(d) often on the radio. I don't listen to the radio anymore but this is a song I remember hearing on the radio a lot. I don't like it, but I can't think of anything else to post.

Music Monday: Vivir lo Nuestro & Say it Loud

A double feature today on Music Monday.

Every song can be a love song. It just depends on how you're lovin', no?

I invite you to share in the comments what songs spring to mind at the phrase 'love song.' Duets tend to be (?) love songs, and this is a very, very pretty song done by Marc Anthony & La India. They performed at last year's Latin Grammys, 30 years (I think) after this performance and none in-between.

And it's still Black History Month (here) so have some James Brown.

Music Monday: The Revolution will not be televised by Gil Scott-Heron

It's Martin Luther King Jr Day in the US and Cheetolini will be sworn in as dictator of the free world and his own mind the president of United States. Save that red, black, and green liberation jumpsuit for a special occasion.
