Music Monday: give it to me by Agust D

I went to the county workforce center today to see if they could help me find a job! I was terrified. They showed me how to use their website and I got set up with an account but the lady I talked to (after I explained I'd been not working for 10 years) told me:

1. I looked depressed. 2. I was too soft spoken 3. I was too casually dressed for an interview (I had dress pants, earrings, flats, and lipstick on. I was TRYING, not enough apparently). 4. Asked me if I exercised because I was so low energy. 5. Recommended I talk a walk before an interview to raise my energy.

Good things to hear but, you know, tough stuff. Just getting through the door that place made me want to vomit.

So I came home and binged on chocolate turtles and here's Agust D because I'm wiped out.

Hrmm. I'm not sure that this "one size fits all" advice is very helpful.

Ha! Yes, it wasn't an interview but still I thought I looked okay. I might've worn a different shirt (if it were an interview) but the rest of it would've been the same. I'm not sure what else I could change. I suppose I could get a suit jacket but on fat ladies that doesn't look so good. And I thought she looked a bit frumpy, but who knows. It isn't like I've got an interview anywhere yet.

It definitely depends on what kind of job you're applying for! If it's a business office job then a suit jacket might be appropriate, but a lot of jobs these days aren't as formal as that. The fact that she gave you this across the board "advice" makes me question her judgment.

it sounds like you were dressed exactly appropriately for that particular interview - possibly not if you were shooting for a job in the Governor's front office, but for that situation, you were fine. the other info isn't horrible overall, and maybe you can incorporate some of that info into your life for the future. might not lead directly to a job, but it can't hurt, right?

Chocolate turtles sound like a good remedy! I'm sorry the lady delivered her advices the way she did (even if she WAS "right" in some points, that's no way to help someone), but don't let her take you down. You did great looking for advice and help! ♥

Yes, I ate too many. Yeah, I mean, it was good advice but I am not at the point where I am interviewing for anything yet. And I was in a new (and scary) environment so I am going to shrink...surely she has dealt with people like me before. Thank you. I am trying.

I was at Target today and thought "Okapi should apply here!". Most lowkey cashiers I have ever experienced. If they were any more lowkey and softspoken, I would have fallen asleep. It was actually really soothing.
