Inspector Maigret sets a clever trap.
In order to avoid more deaths, mishap,
he steps into a ruthless killer’s shoes;
while all the headlines scream the news:
FIEND STRIKES AGAIN WHILE MAIGRET’S COPPERS NAP!

Five months without arrest or useful scrap;
the whole of Paris minds the lag and gap.
From spire to gutter, all revile, abuse
Inspector Maigret

To draw the wily killer to his lap,
Inspector Maigret fills the Montmatre map
with pretty bait the killer can’t refuse,
a wager no one wants to win or lose,
as presses start to pound their type and tap:
“INSPECTOR MAIGRET…”

Very clever - a great summary of the plot!

Thank you! I watched the whole series, which is a lot of TV for me, and realized I liked the first half of the first episode the best. I also read one of the Maigret novels that went with an episode (not that one) Night at the Crossroads and thought the novel did a better job of the plot. But I even googled if Rowan Atkinson and Lucy Cohu were actually married because I thought their relationship was one of the nicest I've seen of cop + cop wife. He looks at her like a real husband in love. And talks to her respectfully. Anyway, another fandom. I'm up to 34!
