Sunshine Challenge 2020: Orange

I wrote a Spenserian stanza about a mandarin orange.

unpeeling orange peel, commencing nick
into which the thumb digs, proceeds to tear
with juice, the tip is wet; the nail’s clogged thick
with rind, and, bit by bit, the fruit’s laid bare
by pretty coils and ugly chips scattered where
they make a mess; the thin white vein-like strings
are picked; the slices split to quarter, pair
from ill-placed jab, a sweet-scented spray springs
in breath and skin and flesh, with zest, the orange sings

Orange1 Orange2 Orange3

And my entry for [profile] wastons_woes July Writing Prompts challenge on 8 July was a triple drabble (Holmes/Watson, pre-Sussex, Gen) called A Whisper of Orange Blossom, referring to the fact that Holmes developed a formula/process which contributed to a popular orange-blossom-based perfume and he is using the income derived to buy the Sussex cottage.

I love this!

I also love those photos; the bright orange on the black table is beautiful.

and, bit by bit, the fruit’s laid bare this one with the mid-peel photo just hits so good. Your table is lovely, btw and now I want an orange.

When I was a kid in Florida, we actually had an orange tree in our front yard. (I held a bit of a grudge against my mother for ages after we moved. I missed that house.) Your poem smells like my childhood.
