What do YOU consider fandom's "little black dress"? Is it a coffeeshop AU? Sharing a bed trope? Bonus, share your favorite example.

Explicit Omegaverse. I know that my closest circle of friends don't like explicit Omegaverse (please don't start your comment with or leave a comment just to tell me how much you don't like explicit Omegaverse. I know! I got it!) but the wider fandom space loves it. My most popular (by huge margins) stand-alone fics are explicit Omegaverse. Nothing else comes close. BBC Sherlock likes long, intricate, romantic Sherlock/John AUs, which I don't read because I don't read long fic.

Some long fics used to come with a playlist. [This is news to me! How wonderful!] What's a song that you were introduced to by something fannish, and what was it inspired by? Bonus: Share a link to the song/music.

The closest I came to doing this was with 24 Caprices & a Bottle of Claret, where each chapter is dedicated to a different one of the violinist/composer Paganini's Caprices.

I would love to ask the wider Sherlock Holmes (ACD) fandom what type of classical music or instrumental music they listen to while ficcing or what they find inspirational for ficcing. I don't listen to music with words/lyrics while ficcing but sometimes I need to drown out the sound of household noise (children & soccer matches on telly) and most of the time I use train ambient noises on the youtube, but I'd love to have more options. In general, I'd love to be musically literate enough to put together a playlist for any of my longer fics (for me that would be anything over 5k), but that would probably be a full-time job to learn enough about music to do that. But it would be wonderful. It's a bit easier around Hallowe'en. There are spooky collections of classical music on the youtube.

Oh, and I ran across something that said Apple was doing away with iTunes. And I'm oblivious to things but how do people listen to music these days? I remember iTunes. I think I even have one of those little rectangles somewhere. But I was surprised when I read that and realized I have no clue how people listen to music these days.

What is something you do today that you wouldn't be doing if not for fandom? Examples: Vacation with fellow fen, running a community, etc.

Well, I wouldn't have friends that I could actually talk to about something interesting. I don't have any friends in RL that I enjoy talking to. I mean, I know a few people but those conversations aren't fun. They're necessary for, you know, being a polite part of society (and not being an asshole, which I try not to be with varying degrees of success) but they aren't really interesting the way fandom conversations are interesting.

And, uh, questioning my sexuality? I mean, it doesn't matter because my life choices have made my decision for me, but sometimes I wonder if fic made me queer. Part of me doubts that a simple hobby could have that profound an effect. And part of me suspects I'm delusional because as oblivious as I was for 30+ years, I wasn't that oblivious. And it's very difficult for me to weed out fic from sexuality because desire comes from fic and goes back into fic. It's kind of closed loop. But, yeah, friends and learning so many, many things about other people's experiences. So, yea!
