Collage Journal: rsc
May. 23rd, 2025 03:03 pmSo I tried to combine several things and it just didn't work.
I got this fun chocolate bar from the Royal Shakespeare Company. I was going to write a poem inspired by it, but my next prompt is insects and I looked up Shakespeare and insects and found an article on carrion maggots and worms and I don't have any maggot stickers and really this wrapper is just too pretty to put maggots with it even if I did have them, so I did a simple collage (only 5 elements) and I will write my maggot poem separately.

Day 8 Prompt: fairy
May's theme color is purple so I did a purple fairy collage.

Question of the Day
Day 8/ 2 MAY. What's the most interesting thing you have in your pockets right now?
I don't have anything in my pocket, it's a tiny no-pocket in my shorts, but I have my bag with me (I am fleeing the heat of the day at the public library) and I have (among other things) Minor's Epi-Pen and key chains with Mang (a squirrel in a horse mask) and Shooky (an angry cookie) and my Hobonichi Cousin planeer (with what I call the Scrabble cover and is officially called Unsodo: Shin-Bijutsukai).

Happy Saint Patrick's Day
Mar. 17th, 2025 05:44 pmHappy Saint Patrick's Day!
I made green eggs and ham for the boys. They weren't impressed. I ended up finishing the ham with one of my FAVORITE seasonal treats: Bailey's Irish Cream cake. YUM!

I also did a collage.

And I am binge listening to audio versions of stories by Irish Le Fanu and did a ficlet for his story "Schalken the Painter."
Title: Beauty
Prompt: beauty
Fandom: "Schalken the Painter" (short story by Sherdian Le Fanu)
Rating: Gen
Length: 500
Summary: Schalken sells his soul for his art.

Collage Journaling: coffee
Feb. 21st, 2025 08:15 amI periodically do a coffee-themed collage. This uses a bag from the coffee recommended by DW friend and I really like it. It says Dark Roast but it isn't very dark (on the web site it says 'dark/medium'). The organization supports tuberculosis treatment and research. In the future (when we have an income) I will probably buy more because it's Fair Trade. On the bag it says to pair with A Party of Lovers by Keats so I've included that below. This is my favorite kind of collage because it's very, very busy, many layers and with many different kinds of elements and textures.

A Party of Lovers by John Keats
Pensive they sit, and roll their languid eyes,
Nibble their toast, and cool their tea with sighs,
Or else forget the purpose of the night,
Forget their tea -- forget their appetite.
See with cross'd arms they sit -- ah! happy crew,
The fire is going out and no one rings
For coals, and therefore no coals Betty brings.
A fly is in the milk-pot -- must he die
By a humane society?
No, no; there Mr. Werter takes his spoon,
Inserts it, dips the handle, and lo! soon
The little straggler, sav'd from perils dark,
Across the teaboard draws a long wet mark.
Arise! take snuffers by the handle,
There's a large cauliflower in each candle.
A winding-sheet, ah me! I must away
To No. 7, just beyond the circus gay.
'Alas, my friend! your coat sits very well;
Where may your tailor live?' 'I may not tell.
O pardon me -- I'm absent now and then.
Where might my tailor live? I say again
I cannot tell, let me no more be teaz'd --
He lives in Wapping, might live where he pleas'd.'

Sherlock Sunday: The Sign of Four
Jan. 19th, 2025 02:22 pm
Challenge #9
In your own space, create a fanwork.
This is my Sherlock Sunday entry #2 for 2025.
The Sign of Four is the second of four Sherlock Holmes novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Interesting fact: Oscar Wilde and Doyle attended a party in 1899 sponsored by Lippincott Publishing and both ended up with book deals by the end of it. The Wilde book was The Picture of Dorian Grey and Doyle's was The Sign of Four
I listened to an audiobook version of The Sign of Four with David Timson as narrator who does a solid job. And I made a collage. (a physical collage made with sticker and paper in a notebook and scanned).
The Sign of Four is where Watson gets a wife and we see Holmes' cocaine addiction. We meet the Baker Street Irregulars and a certain dog named...?
The dog in the collage is the only dog sticker I had. He doesn't look like that in the book! I included 6 pearls for the ones Mary receives from an anonymous benefactor and a map of the Andaman Islands. It's unlikely that kind of shaped bottle would hold cocaine but the other ones were less likely.

One of the best parts of The Sign of Four is that we get the Watch deduction which BBC Sherlock riffed on in the first episode of that series. And the scene in the cab of Sherlock explaining the clues from John's phone has to be one of my very favorite scenes in all of fandom.
And a drabble I did inspired by the phrase 'neat Moroccan case' which we get in The Sign of Four
Title: Neat Moroccan case
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (ACD)
Rating: Gen
Length: 100
Prompt: confused
Notes: Angst. set during Hiatus (when Holmes is 'dead')
Summary: Watson tries to find a cause for his bad mood.
