Writing: Many things going on:
1. I completed by GYWO pledge for 2025. So year-to-date, word count: 150,040
2. GYWO Yahtzee is over, and I did all but 1 category, so I was #5 (everyone ahead of me did all the categories)
3. I uploaded my beta-ed case fic today. Whew!
4. Started a new BTS soap opera, a Yoonkook Rear Window AU
5. 4 poems
5. Fills for: [community profile] emotion100, [community profile] 100words, [community profile] drabble_zone, [community profile] vocab_drabbles

In July:
1. Keep the soap opera going
2. Still behind on the poems. Catch up on poems.

Reading: A very good reading month. 7 books.

In July:
1. At least 3 squares in the bingo.
2. Finish The Mirror Crack'd [it's annoying me at the moment, which is sad because the plot itself is very clever, but it begins with ol' Aggie's old lady carping and that is giving me indigestion]

Crafting:

5 spreads. 1 card.

In July:
I might do some summer postcards.

I have started a jigsaw puzzle, and I am forcing the boys to get off screen and help me with it after lunch. It is called Around the World in 50 Plants. Finish it by the start of school 25 AUG]

Personal:
1. Surviving the leak
2. Interviewing for a job
3. End of school for the boys

In July:
1. Minor and the boys' father are going to Jacksonville, Florida for 5 days for a track meet. So Minisculus and I will be home alone. It should be interesting.

So many mental and physical health areas I am not doing well in, but I don't want to dwell on them here.

May Word Count: 37,851

Writing: So I cranked out two explicit BTS fics for [community profile] super_effucktive [formerly known as Dick or Treat]. I also did a series of four short ficlets for my Yahtzee prompts in the original Dracula fandom and posted on [community profile] the_scent_of_lilacs. I managed the 10 of 20 challenge on [community profile] sweetandshort

I have another set of Yahtzee prompts, and I have three more categories I could fill before it ends (June 18/25) but I don't know if I am feeling motivated to do that. Part of me wants to cut bait.

Because in June, I am going to be focused on my case fic exchange fic. There is a certain voice I need to capture in my head, and it's tricky (not quite as tricky as Bertie Wooster but a challenge in its own right) so that takes mental bandwidth, clearing the mechanism.

Poetry: I am almost caught up on my 52 poem prompts. This week's (which I haven't done yet) is prose poem. 3 poems done in May. I liked Stacy. I think that one worked properly.

Reading: 7 books which brings me up to 30 for the year (which is fine. I have no goal with regard to number of books read).

I just realized I haven't done a Book Bingo update since the end of March so I should do that in June. I listened to The Guest List by Lucy Foley for the multiple POV square. It was okay. Nobody was especially likable and it was 'public schoolboys kill someone and finally face consequences 20 years later. lol' I have at least 3 more I can fill already so I need to sit down and update that. Also I have 2 in my TBR which fill slots. I think the hardest one is going to be the TV Movie Tie in because I don't watch TV or movies so if there are new things in this category in the mystery/detective genre, let me know. And I've already read all the Murderbots.

I am reading the Inspector Rebus in order and I've just finished #18 & #19. Unfortunately, I've already read the ones that had TV episodes about them. I read a short story collection by Tom Mead, the locked-room magician author I've mentioned before.

Crafting: 8 spreads & 6 cards and my Alma Thomas jigsaw puzzle.

June's color theme will be peach/orange as well as rainbow for pride. There is a different kind of craft I could do in June. I may break it out.

Heath & Fitness: 16 days of yoga. But my weight is up from the first of the year. I need to stop eating junk. That's most of the problem.

Personal: I turned 50! Wow! I applied for my AARP card even though I am not a retired person. I'm just old. The boys' father went to Kenya for 10 days and returned safely. Maintenace issues (leaks and mice) persist. And they are redrawing lines for schools so we will more than likely be moving by next spring.

And the big news, I got an email late on Friday saying to call the home health agency for an interview!!! I got it too late to catch the HR office open but I will be calling Monday morning!!

June is Pride! On y va!

Reading: Only 3 books this month. A

Writing: I did do 10 out of 20 challenge [community profile] sweetandshort and some of the prompts [community profile] spring_renewal and the monthly prompt at [community profile] emotion100.

Poetry: I wrote 20 poems! And wrote in 17 different poetic forms! And 3 rounds of GYWO Yahtzee prompts. And what's best is that I am caught up on the prompts from the 52 poetry prompt book (this is week 18 and I am on 18).

Crafting: 13 spreads!

Health & Fitness: 16 days of yoga. But I have put on weight :( But I ran at the lake 7 times and got faster.

Personal: Minor turned 14. I did a CV/resume and cover letter and applied for job #2. I'm participating in 3Weeks4Dreamwidth. Budget is *sobs* I need to get my spending under control. I was doing well for a couple of months and now things are unraveling.

On y va to Monday!

Word Count for March: 11588 [the end of the soap opera!]

Writing: The big thing was wrapping up the soap opera. I haven't really moved on from that. But I did do 3 fills for my first Yahtzee roll and a few other fills for [community profile] emotion100 and [community profile] vocab_drabbles and [community profile] sweetandshort.

April is Poetry Month, however, and I'm going to be focused on that. Warning: feel free to unsubscribe for April if poetry is not your thing.

Reading: I'm still reading a lot (for me). Seven books. I didn't get to Bertram's Hotel for All of Agatha. Something for April. I finished the biography of Edward Gorey. It was very interesting.

Crafting: Only 4 spreads and 1 card. It doesn't feel like I've been very crafty this month.

Health & Fitness: I did manage 16 days of yoga.

Personal: I did fill out an application this morning on the Walmart website. That was a big fear overcome regardless of the outcome. We celebrated Minisculus birthday.

Word Count for February: 22,221

Writing: The focus was on the soap opera, but I did a couple of drabbles for [community profile] small_fandoms Drabblethon and a BTS one-shot. The soap opera is scheduled to end on 9 MAR so we'll see what happens after that.

Unfortunately, I haven't been doing much poetry in the second half of the month. I let that go. But April is National Poetry Month in the US so I am going to try to get back to it.

Reading: I did an awful lot of reading this month. 8 books! That's a lot for me.

Crafting: 1 jigsaw, 9 Valentines, and 7 spreads.

Health & Fitness: The weight has gone down a few pounds. 15 days of yoga.

I think I yammered enough about the personal stuff. On y va to March!

Word Count for January: 30,777

Reading: 4 books, which I will post about soon. GK Chesterton's work on Saint Francis of Assisi, a Jane Austen mystery, The Pale Horse, and an anthropology book on the history of sugar.

I have a tall TBR for February. I don't think realistically I will get to all of them. But I also am going to do one of my all-time favorite books of all books: A Carribean Mystery for All of Agatha.

Writing: The big accomplishment was completing my WIP, the BTS animal hybrid story I began last year at Lunar New Year.

I will keep going with the soap opera.

Poetry: I wrote 3 poems (2 of which I have posted). I am reading more poetry, but I want to be a bit more systematic about it in February.

Crafting 7 spreads. I did the Snowflake challenge. 1 jigsaw puzzle (the Scotland one). In February (to go with A Carribean Mystery) I will be doing a Miss Marple puzzle.

The big thing in February will be Valentines. I will be working on those this weekend. It also happens to be the birthday of jhope of BTS [18 Feb] and Edward Gorey's birthday, too [22 Feb].

25 in '25: This is a challenge I stole from [personal profile] smallhobbit, and I am interpreting it as '25 new-to-me things which make me S-T-R-E-T-C-H' and for January: 1. I hemmed two pair of pants for the first time ever in my half century of living and 2. I mixed the essential oils I got for Christmas in a spray form. For February, I am going to try a new supermarket (ALDI for US friends, which I have never been to) and not sure what else.

Heath & Fitness: 16 days of yoga! Unfortunately, the scale went in the wrong direction. But TODAY the pediatrician put Minisculus on a Caloric Moderation program (ha!) and so I am going to be implementing the 7 steps (1 step every 2 weeks) and maybe that will be a good thing. Step 1 is scheduled meals and snacks (so no free-range snacking).

Putting the phone in the kitchen before I go to bed was the new habit. The one I am trying for February is no screen + eating (drinking is still ok) and this includes phone.

Of course, the boys' father losing his job is the big personal catastrophe, but even before that, the snow definitely put me in a bad state (and, of course, fascism). The snow itself is beautiful but being trapped and fearful for so many days was not a fun thing. Keeping my regular schedule of shopping and chores is more important to my mental health than I knew.

It's already February now, so I'd better get this up! On y va!

Word Count for the Year: 356,363

[200k of that is the soap opera, which I have updated every Friday since March]

Writing: Did 10 fills for [community profile] adventdrabbles and 10 fills for [community profile] fffc Winter Calendar. Only seven fills for [community profile] sweetandshort (not a nice round number). Finished my WIP.

Goals for 2025 are to finish another WIP and end the soap opera and do something for Sherlock Holmes' birthday (6 JAN) and for National Puzzle Day (29 Jan).

Reading: 59 books [Not 60! I do like a nice round number. This year it will be either 50 or 60.]. [personal profile] kingstoken has the 2025 Book Bingo card and [personal profile] garonne has one, too. [I have told myself I will do my best with the latter--it will be hard for me--but the word for 2025 is S T R E T C H]

Crafting:The junk journals were the highlight of the year. For December, 5 spreads and 10 cards. I am going to do Valentines in February. 1 jigsaw done in December. I have 4 new ones. I need to keep a yearly count--and luckily I have a fancy new planner!

My sister gave me two bottles of essential oils and my goal this week is to figure out how to put them into spray bottles. I want to do a spread for Sherlock Holmes day too. And, of course, the annual Epiphany tart.

Also, I used an old gift card and bought 2 pair of pants, and I have never hemmed pants before so the second half of January will be figuring out how to do that.

I will be using my new fancy planner too. Maybe journaling Dear Diary style.

Personal: The highlights were the Bridge Run and the Aruba trip. Of course, there is the ubiquitous goal of losing weight. The Rudolph Run sort of put me in a spiral about not taking care of myself but I am going to use the momentum of the new year to get back on track (get back to doing the Yoga with Adriene). And budget! I have been seen all these Youtube videos on no-spend and overconsumption, and I am going to be more deliberate in my spending and frugal overall.

I think it was a good year. Branched out into a new craft area, had a vacation, maintained a regularly updating fic, met a physical goal (and had an experience).

26 DEC: Thank you Note Day: Do you write thank you notes?
Yes, I am religious about it. That was drummed into my head as a child and never left.

27 DEC: Visit the Zoo: When’s the last time you visited a zoo?
We went to a walk through of Christmas lights some years ago with the kids.

28 DEC: Endangered Species Act Day: What’s your favorite endangered animal?
okapis!

29 DEC: Tick Tock Day: Who is your favorite TickTocker?
I don't know any but I like the dance challenges the boys put out. The last one I really liked was jhope doing the Sticky challenge.

30 DEC: Bacon Day: Bacon. Yay or nay?
Yay! BLT, yum.

31 DEC: New Year’s Eve: How do you ring in the new year?
We have nibbles and toast as a family as close to midnight as we can manage. But this winter break Minisculus has been binging Marvel movies and wants to do a Marvel RPG...we'll see...I might be someone called Psylocke.

The tentative plan is to do housework until noon and then start drinking...woo-hoo! I have a bottle of cava and a bottle of orange juice.

See you Next Year!

Reading: 3 books. The Seishi Yokomizo novel, the Nero Wolfe, and the Rebus. I am working on the next Rebus.

Crafting: I finished a Christmas gift. 6 cards, 4 of them Xmas cards. 3 spreads, 2 monthly spreads and a decorating of the Aruba guidebook.

Reading: I finished 3 books this month: Ordeal by Innocence by Agatha Christie; the BTS book; and IT by Stephen King. The last was a 45-hour audiobook. I am taking the latest English translation of Seishi Yokomizo's series The Little Sparrow Murders with me on my trip as well as the Aruba guidebook, and I have a few pages left of my Nero Wolfe. I am hoping to pick up a book about Aruba, too, while I'm there, either a nonfiction historical book or some kind of popular fiction by an author from there.

I did a review of Five Decembers by James Kestrel for [community profile] booknook's October Review-a-thon. It is here: https://booknook.dreamwidth.org/26429.html

Writing: 2 fills for [community profile] emotion100 and 10 fills for [community profile] sweetandshort and 1 for [community profile] holmes_minor. I updated my soap opera, including special updates for Jimin's birthday and Halloween. I am to the last chapter of the second arc and there will be one more arc before next March when it ends. I have another BTS WIP pending.

I did two entries for Spook Me in Sherlock Holmes (ACD) and Venom. And really tried to channel the MR James vibe.

Crafting: My Super Secret Craft Projects are done! And they are on their way to their final destinations. Word Count for September: 21,481

Writing: I did manager 10 ficlets for [community profile] sweetandshort. And I kept up my soap opera regular updates on Friday with two special updates for Jungkook & RM's birthdays.

I had to feed my Bun Koo claim to the Ferret (this means I dropped the claim and abandoned the idea of writing the fic) because now we are in going into October and I just don't have time to do it justice. Which is a shame because I read A LOT about the care of rabbits for no reason.

October is Spook Me challenge and Hallowe'en and I haven't even opened my Spook Me prompts. That is on the list of to-do's for tomorrow (which is in about 30 minutes).

Reading: I read/listened to 6 books, which is a lot for me for one month. I will be doing my review for the Review-a-thon on [community profile] booknook on the 28th. I want to finish the BTS book this month. I am about halfway through it. I also want to pick up a copy of Seishi Yokomizo's new translation (The Little Sparrow Murders) before the vacation at the end of the month. That will be my Trip Book.

Crafting: The big thing was finishing SSCP #1 and starting #2 & #3. I also did 2 jigsaw puzzles, 6 spreads and 6 cards. I am going to do Hallowe'en cards for everyone. If I don't have your address and you'd like one, just message me with it on DW. Or email me at okapi1895@gmail.com I have lots of international stamps!

Health & Fitness: I am up to 9 km in my training. The race is 10 Nov and is a 10 km. I have done 17 days of training and 17 days of Yoga with Adriene.

Personal: Lots of maintenance issues with the apartment. The leaks from the upstairs neighbors. The microwave blew up. The mice. Ugh. But the big anxiety right now is my spending is out of control. Really, I need to put my credit card on ice for a while. I just need to STOP, you know? Yes, you know. Some of it is the kids but some of it is my poor impulse control. I am thinking I need to get my old Cognitive Behavior Therapy workbook out because it's getting a bit nutty.

Anyway, October is my favorite month of the year so in about 20 minutes it will begin...

Monthly Word Count: 29,761

Writing: Mostly the soap opera.

Reading: 5 books, including the two for the boys' summer reading and one for next month's book review at [community profile] booknook. I've got 3 audiobooks going at the same time at the moment.

Health & Fitness: 16 days of running and 16 days of Yoga with Adriene. I am up to 8k in my training for the 10k across the bridge on 10 NOV. I signed the family up for the Thanksgiving 5k we always to.

Crafting: Part 1 of Super Secret Craft Project is done, and I've begun on Part 2. Seven cards & six spreads (I've decided to start counting my monthly journal spreads. And one jigsaw puzzle. I am about 60% finished with another jigsaw puzzle.

Personal: The boys are back in school, and life is getting busier. I've got tickets for the Renaissance Fair in two weeks.
stonepicnicking_okapi: okapi (Default)
July is gone. Wow.

Monthly Word Count: 34,565

Writing: 99% of my writing was my soap opera update because 9 July was a landmark day and I wanted to reach a certain point in the plot--ending the first arc--by that day. BUT I also did 10 drabbles for [community profile] sweetandshort using dad jokes and 4 ficlets for [community profile] vocab_drabbles using the language of flowers.

Reading: I finished the Bingo! Huzzah! I actually read 7 books this month, which is a lot for me! This month, I am doing 4:50 from Paddington for All of Agatha and I am going to savor it. And pray for a Lucy Eylesbarrow to deliver me from domestic drudgery.

Collage & Crafts: I finished my cross stitch gift & 3 jigsaw puzzles (also a lot). 5 spreads & 2 cards.

Health & Fitness: I am still training for the 10k. 17 days of running either outdoors or at the Y. I did 16 days of Yoga with Adriene! Didn't lose an ounce. You know the adage: You can't outrun a bad diet. My picture should be beside that (if I allowed my picture to be taken, which I don't).

Personal Spending was out of control! Today I did back-to-school clothing shopping and wanted a lie-down when I saw the total. Minor is wearing men's size clothes. I allowed him to pick out his own underpants (like a man!) and at the register, they ended up being $88! I nearly had a heart attack. (We Put Some Back).

This month, the boys are going to a professional soccer game with their dad and without me! And the county fair is this coming week. And school starts on 26 Aug. Minor will be in 8th grade (so last year of middle school) and Minisculus will be in 4th (still elementary school).

I would like to focus on 1. slowing down and being one pointed (the oppositie of multi-tasking) 2. increasing my distance in 10k training 3. Super Secret Craft Project 4. poetry 5. getting my star-cross lovers in my soap opera reunited (one is in jail, the other has amnesia).

On y va to August!
stonepicnicking_okapi: okapi (Default)
It is already July?! Half of 2024...gone?!

June Word Count: 35,724

I have reached my 150k goal for the year. Huzzah! I'm actually 80k from 3 million words in my AO3 account so maybe I'll hit it by my 11th year anniversary writing fic in December??

Reading: I finished 3 Bingo squares. I have 5 left. I am working on a supernatural story anthology and a book of dad jokes. I am hoping to finish it by the time school starts back (26 Aug).

I also have my two Mom's Summer Book Club books. Montogomery and the Golden Key by Traci Occomy Crowder. It's a book about a 10 year old boy living in the Southside of Chicago during the Obama election/campaign. There's an age appropriate neighborhood mystery. And The Royal Ranger by John Flanagan which is a medieval fantasy with archers, warriors, invaders, kings, traitors, etc. The plot seems to be what to do with a Strong Willed Teenage princess (make her a warrior apprentice, apparently). I don't like it but Minor has balked at changing it.

Writing: I placed 4th in the GYWO Yahtzee challenge. There were 8 categories and I filled 5 of them (so 25 works including 15 poems since April). I finished my Unconventional Courtship fic. I finished my Intoabar fic. But, of course, I had to put everything on hold to do the last two.

And I'm doing weekly updates for the soap opera and I'm excited because it's reaching the point where the lord of the manor is going to get murdered (in the next 9 days, I want the murder to go up on ARMY day, 9 July).

Personal: The diet is very frustrating. I go down. I go up. I go down. I go up. I am training for the 10 k, that's going okay. Two of the three sports bras are winners so that's good. [personal profile] firecat had inspired me to wonder if Smelling Salts would enhance my performance (Ha, ha, ha!)

Summer vacation. Trying to keep the boys occupied. Not being to do anything requiring Deep Thought (like planning a murder!) because of Constant Interruptions! They both have workbooks and do a page a day to keep their brains from rotting completely. The pool is finally opening so that will be good. We caught another mouse yesterday. 3 cards and 3 spreads, so not much collaging really.

I feel like I'm doing a little bit of everything and finishing nothing. I worked a bit on the cross stitch. I started a new bee puzzle, but it's about 10% done. I've made a little progress on the running, a little progress on the book bingo, a couple of cards, a couple of spreads, you know, here, there, bit, bit.

I got caught up with my Fannish 50 (and stayed caught up). And I am now wordsmith for Mondays at [community profile] 1word1day.

On y va to July!
stonepicnicking_okapi: okapi (Default)
Wow. It's been a month, hasn't it?

Word Count: 41,514

I know, right? I triple checked it because it seems too high but it comes from the [community profile] dick_or_treat fills + my soap opera updates. So I'm, like, 20k (so a month) from the Year end goal of 150k. What?!

Writing: I did 4 fills for [community profile] dick_or_treat total (for April and May) and 3 in May itself. There's a WIP I won't finish (may never finish) which I started for it, set in my BTS A/B/O tarot 'verse.

10 fills for [community profile] sweetandshort 10 out of 20 and 2 for the photo prompts.
1 fill for [profile] emotions100
4 fills for [community profile] vocab_drabbles including 3 poems for GYWO Yahtzee. I am 1 and 1/4 poems from finishing the Yahtzee set but it's a toss up if I will before the end of things in June.
4 updates on the soap opera
5 poems

So next up, I told myself I am not doing ANYTHING but 1. unconventional courtship (due 13 June) and then Intoabar (which I'm not doing again ever because I got...Sherlock Holmes...meets Raymond West (Miss Marple's nephew). This is why I don't do exchanges either. Other people picking my prompts always rubs my fur the wrong way.

To do unconventional courtship properly, I need to steep myself in hardboiled voice (not a hardship, I love it) but it's like doing a Bertie fic. You have to go Method Actress for a bit. So expect a lot of slumming angels to appear across the board. And my soap opera is reaching a boiling point. I want my big shock to go up on ARMY day (9 July).

Reading: I am loving Margery Allingham. I think listening to the audiobooks is part of it. I never thought of myself as a Campion fan but I am! I just finished The China Governess, I also listened to The Mind-Readers and I am impressed. So maybe I will do her oeuvre from start to finish, too, one day.

3 Bingo squares done.

I have 8 squares on the bingo left and the goal is blackout by the time school starts back at the end of August. I think I can do it. I have a great selection of books. I just need to make more time to read.

I met my goal of catching up on Fannish 50 (one post a week, I'm on 22). I won't be on Monday but I am going to celebrate until then :)

Personal: I finished the 5k relay. Not a PR but I also didn't injure myself like in November. AND I signed up for the bridge 10k in November (solo) and will start training for that in the morning!

The diet didn't happen. And I gained some weight back BUT tomorrow is another day.

13 spreads! And 7 cards! That's a lot of collage. And I haven't even done June one yet!

2 jigsaw puzzles. I have a lovely supply to keep me going until the end of the year.

Another odd monthly goal which I met was not getting a sunburn. In March, I got cooked to a crisp, shoulders, neck, and chest and it lingered, itching badly all day and night and sometimes stinging, too, for weeks and weeks, long after it peeled and healed on the surface. So I decided not to put myself through all that again. And I did it! Yay. Given how much time I spend on sidelines watching little boys play sports it's impressive.

Also, it's morbid but my mom died when she was 48 (and I was 18) and so having my 49th birthday means I've lived longer than she did. And it makes me Think.

Minor's track and soccer seasons are done. Minisculus still has soccer and swimming lessons. Last day of school is 14 June.

so, June is Pride. I'll be focusing on my 3 fics (unconventional courtship, intoabar, and soap opera) and reading and starting the 10k training. I also want to finish my other OM cross stitch but I am setting that as an end-of-summer goal.

On y va.

April Word Count: 30, 089

Having a regularly weekly updating soap opera is helping with the number.

Reading: [personal profile] debriswoman and I had a book club of two, reading How to be a Poet by Jo Bell and Jane Commane, which was very enlightening with regard practice and also informative about the practical world of publishing. I also read 2 Poirot Agatha Christies [Hickory, Dickory, Dock and Dead Man's Folly]. I have also been listening to a lot of audibooks courtesy of Youtube. The copyright enforcement of Youtube, however, sometimes means that they get taken down overnight before I've finished. But more pop up (like mushrooms). I listened to the first 4 Gervase Fen books by Edmund Crispin and now am on my second John Rhode book. (Golden Age of Crime detective novels). Plugging away at the Bingo.

Poetry: My goal was to write 10 poems and I succeeded (just barely). I did 9 for GYWO Yahtzee fills and 1 related to honkaku and shin honkaku for my Fannish 50. I posted works by 12 poets. Good enough! I will keep going on. Every month is poetry month for the poet, but I feel I made a solid observance.

Writing: One fill for Dick or treat. Updated my BTS animal hybrid AU. 2 fills for Spring Renewal. 4 Friday updates of my soap opera (which is called Ungrateful).

Crafting: 2 cards. 5 spreads. I finished Minor's cross stitch.

Personal: Went to SUGA the movie and made 24 treat bags for that. I have almost (ALMOST!) lost 10 lbs since 1 Jan. Of course, it's a drop in the lard bucket but it's not nothing. I do intermittent fasting. I try to do 10-14 most days with a longer fast 1 day a week. I have been doing Yoga with Adriene 4 days of the week. I found that if I propose to do it on my own (like sun salutations or a flow) it doesn't happen, so for now I am sticking to Adriene.

What's up for May: I have plenty to read. I have TBR books which would fill at least 2 more squares, and an idea for a third square. Keep going with the Yahtzee fills & my BTS Omegaverse soap opera & the Dick or Treat fills and Fannish 50 posts & 3 Weeks 4 Dreamwidth posts. I am running the relay 10k with Minor on Sunday so I've been training for that. I tend to be a kind of slug between my birthday and Mother's Day 6 May to 12 May. For my birthday, I've asked for the glass door to be cleaned and for Mother's Day for my car to be vaccumed. And I bought myself a ton of stickers so I hope to spend most my week collaging. I also have 2 kits I didn't do during Spring Break and a mystery puzzle about 50% completed.

Minor has soccer practices and games. Minisculus has soccer practice and games. Minor has track practices and meets. Minor also has choral events. Minisculus has swimming lessons. And Minisculus' school has its Spring Fair. It's also field trip season :)

Word Count for March: 28,212

Writing: Most of the word count is my new BTS soap opera Ungrateful. I am trying to update on a schedule (something I've never done before), every Friday. I have one more easy chapter and then I shall have to start Plotting. The first part is most smut but I am soon going to introduce a murder!

I did 10 fills for [community profile] sweetandshort's 10 out of 20. I did my first round of GYWO Yahtzee with a Yahtzee of Miss Marple.

Next month is the first month of Dick or Treat, which I usually participate in, but it's also Poetry Month, so the word count will go down.

Reading/Listening: I have finished a total of 8 books this month, which is much more than usual. Many are audiobooks but still. An Agatha Christie, a Michael Gilbert, 2 Matthew Venn books, a graphic novel, the honkaku, Posession, and a science fiction.

Next month is Poetry Month so my goal is to read Jo Bell's How to be a Poet cover to cover.

Crafting: I dyed eggs with the boys today. I finished Minisculus' cross stitch for his birthday. I have two spring/Easter crafts, only one of which I may get to by Sunday. 3 spreads and 2 cards. Next month, I am probably not going to have a lot of time to craft. I was thinking about sending out spring cards. I am on the fence about that.

Personal: I have been doing good with the yoga and the exercise. I am doing better with the intermittent fasting too. I lost a tiny bit of weight. The one area that suffered this month was spending. I spent too much on unnecessary stuff. And set myself up for more unnecessary spending.

I filled in the calendar for the boys' activities for April and we have something almost every day of the entire month (weekends included). Both boys have soccer practices and games and Minor has track practices and meets and choral events and Minisculus has swimming lessons so I am going to have to be GENTLE (with myself and everyone) and PATIENT and PREPARED and FLEXIBLE. And let some things go.

So, I am planning to open the bottle of cava I bought for New Year's Eve (and never opened) on Sunday for Easter brunch and enjoy my last day of holiday.

Word Count for February: 25,697 [woot, woot, I'm out of the hole]

Writing: For the first time, I actually did 10 fills for [community profile] sweetandshort 10 out of 20 challenge (as well as both picture prompts). Also I did a fill for [community profile] story_works Year of the Dragon. And I finished my Jeeves fic. And two poems, one for [community profile] holmes_minor and one for Edward Gorey's birthday. 6 Fannish 50 posts. And I finished the Snowflake Challenge (the last is satisfying).

Reading: 4 books. 3 for the bingo and 1 Agatha Christie. On the TBR: The Murder in the Mill House; My Plain Jane; Possession; Blacksad and others. I'm listening to Death in Captivity on Youtube.

Craft: 11 Valentines. 4 spreads. I started Minor's birthday cross stitch but Minisculus has said he wants one, and his birthday is in March, so I am going to set one up for him (he picked an ice cream design) and focus on that.

Personal: Regular yoga practice (I finished the second half of Yoga with Adriene's January 2024 30-day challenge); 2 hikes; regular exercise; NO weight loss (sadness!); I am doing fairly well with recording a daily gratitude. I did 14-10 intermittent fasting the entire time the boys' father was away. I like it for reducing my appetite, but I need to work harder at it. I want to work on portion control, reducing sugar intake, regular personal sun salutations (as opposed to a Youtube video) and getting a healthier nighttime routine.

Also, the mouse has returned! I saw him last night!

March will be St. Patrick's Day, 2 weekends of soccer tournaments for Minisculus, Minisculus' birthday, Easter, spring break.

[about 7k short of my monthly goal :( Sadness.]

Reading: 5 books. 3 audiobooks. 2 print books. 1 Agatha Christie. I am in the process of reading two more.

Writing: I did some small things. I did write 4 poems. I wrote 800 words of Jeeves & The Baghdad Chest, but it's just a beginning. I'm very disappointed in myself for that. I also didn't finish the Snowflake challenge. But I did do a 365 Questions for 2024.

Crafts: I finished a cross-stitch! Something I began before Xmas. I'm not going to post photos yet. I did 1 puzzle. 4 collage spreads and 1 card.

Personal: Let's focus first on the positive: I did 15 days of Yoga with Adriene. Every other day is a good system for me.

I am working on recording my expenses in a spread sheet. That's a work in progress. I suppose it's like food logging for the first time and you say to yourself 'Wow, that's a lot of junk!'

The boys' father and I renewed the lease on our apartment. The rent went up (of course) but at least we won't be homeless for the next 12 months.

I did not lose any weight this month. I realize there's no way I'm not going to downward spiral about this, not making any progress in the Very First Month, but I am giving myself today to spiral and tomorrow to get back on the wagon. That (and not finishing the Jeeves fic and not finishing the Snowflake Challenge) has left me feeling fairly shitty about myself.

But, on y va to February. There are a lot of good things in February. Lunar New Year, Mardi Gras, Valentine's Day, Edward Gorey's birthday, Leap Day, lots of interesting bits and bobs. So, what's ahead:

-Valentine's. I have so many fun card/collage materials. Really, the cards are going to be exquisite.
-I want to go on 2 hikes/walks in February (one alone and one with the boys, not strenuous, maybe 1-3 hrs each). I have got 2 books from the library about trails in my area. I think it would be interesting to see if I benefit from More Nature in my life.
-I was thinking about a Venom fic for Valentine's Day and something inspired by Edward Gorey's The Fatal Lozenge for his birthday on the 22nd. The cover of that is my Gorey calendar picture for February and I am inspired.
-a poem for Holmes Minor Poetry page. [personal profile] smallhobbit and [personal profile] debriswoman have contributed excellent works on the theme of a skiing/tobogganing competition and I need to hold my own
-keep up the good work with the yoga, get myself comfortable with doing daily sun salutations
-finish my Marie Kondo decluttering in the 2 weeks that the boys' father traveling
-finish the snowflake challenge
-finish Jeeves & the Baghdad Chest

Word Count for 2023: 192,818

I am pleased I finished my ACD Four Seasons fic, especially to post for the last active month of [community profile] watsons_woes. I wrote gift fics for smallhobbit and [personal profile] bethctg and my Iraqi In the Seom friend. I did all 30 Advent prompts.

As usual, I marked all my ficlet collections as 'complete' for the end of the year.

I didn't get to do my Jeeves & Wooster fic, so that's going on the list for 2024.

Reading: 43 books for 2023, which I suspect is an undercount. Much less than 2022. but I did finish [personal profile] kingstoken's bingo.

I have 2 books I bought in the TbR and 1 from the library recommended by a Japanese friend (bullet Train by Kotaro Isaka). And [personal profile] kingstoken is doing another bingo.

Personal: I ended up losing 26 pounds this year (at my lowest point it was 31 lbs). I have much more to go. I canceled Noom and downloaded the free version of Lose it! for food journaling. I want to get back to intermittent fasting and maybe sign up for a 5k in the spring.

I still need to finish my Marie Kondo campaign. I am going to focus on getting it done and not guilt about not getting it done.

I did 19 days of yoga this month, and one New Years resolution is to establish a regular yoga practice. I genuinely believe stretching adds so much to my physical comfort and yoga is a nice intersection of spirituality and stretching and strength building.

I want to decrease screen time, specifically playing In the Seom on my phone so I have more time to do focus on Marie Kondo and crafting and reading and exercise and meal planning. Also, I have decided to distance myself from my In the Seom friend. I don't think our relationship is healthy. It frustrates me and puts me in a strange headspace.

And spend less money! First, I need to do a budget. I have been a bit reckless of late. Also I need to renew my driver's license before May.

As usual, I am too tired and ready for a clean slate to do much of a reflection. It was an okay year.

We are going to fireworks tonight! I am so excited. I love fireworks. I have a bottle of cava too, but I don't know if I will feel like drinking it.

On y va!

Word Count: 9314

[since I've met my annual goal, I'm not superinvested in the word count]

Writing:

-I have 400 works on AO3. I like nice round numbers.
-I ended up doing two fics for Sick or Treat.
-I finished Fandom Empire challenge as #6
-4 poems
-added an autumn chapter to my ACD fic, Four Seasons, Four Cases

Reading:

I read/listened to a lot more this month.

1. The Invisible Man by HG Wells
2. The Amnityville Horror by Jay Anson
3. A Daughter's a Daughter by Mary Westmacott
4. The Theft of the Iron Dogs by ECR Lorac
5. System Collapse by Martha Wells
6. Dead Wake by Erik Lawson

Personal: The 5k! I did only 3 spreads but I've done 13 cards. I'm working on Xmas gifts. Unfortunately, I've gained some weight back but tomorrow is another day and I'm going to try to get back on the wagon. I'm going to cancel my Noom by the end of the month. I don't want to spend more money on it even though I haven't reached my goal.
