I just watched a Youtube video about setting up a morning routine, and it recommended playing a morning playlist, so here's a question:

If you had a morning playlist, what song(s) or type of music would be on it?

I have an older version (with Jack Nicholson!) to watch tonight with the boys, but this is quite the earworm, isn't it? Expect some Halloween music spamming from today through Monday.

So for the end of 3 Weeks 4 Dreamwidth, [personal profile] goodbyebird posted a challenge about songs, and so I took the first option, a song title for every letter in my [abbreviated] username:

O - Osaka Blues by Dave Bruebeck [jazz]

K - Kiss by Prince [80's pop/r&b]

A - Agust D by Agust D [k-rap]

P - Private Investigator by Graham de Wilde [jazz instrumental]

I - Invincible by Pat Benatar [80's rock]

I smacked my head for not posting this on Monday!!

The eclipse was very cool. I was not planning to look at it but the boys came home just at the right time and brought glasses from school and it was great! Loved it.

I came across this performance accidentally and I don't know that I've seen it before. It's not one of my favorite songs but I do like this performance of it.

This is my favourite solo song by V of bts. I think there is a lot of charm to V, especially in the early years of the group. Like an interview mentioned there was 'a certain something special in [the group's] eyes' and V replied it was just eyeliner. Minisculus is a V stan. :)

One thing I find amazingly horrible about life as a kpop star is that the members of bts fly very long distances (from Seoul to New York or Paris) for very short commitments (1 or 2 days) and then fly back. I think it's a very grueling aspect of their lives. Jin of bts flew to Buenos Aires to perform his solo song at a Coldplay concert and then (I think) basically flew back home. Wow.

It's impossible for me to think of Jin without thinking about my DW friend (and my only ARMY friend) [personal profile] bethctg I am certain I wouldn't still be an ARMY if I didn't have her in my life. She inspires me by going to school and working and being an all-around wonderful person. I don't have a lot of pictures of Jin because they all end up going into cards for her (she is, as we say, Jin-biased, meaning he's her favourite). She's going to be having a rough week this week so the card under the cut is going to her.

I write tons of fic with Jin in it. He is a very fun character to write. First, he's the oldest. And the visual (meaning the one selected because of handsome-ness). And can be very silly. So there's a lot to work with. He likes cooking. I think he's the one least interested in the celebrity lifestyle. And he was the first to enlist but he'll be out in less than 8 months.

On Saturday night, I went to my local cinema to see DDAY, the Agust D tour, broadcast from Japan. It was good. I am glad I went. The theatre wasn't crowded. Maybe 25 people. I had the entire front section (the section in front of the entrance aisle) to myself. Two ARMYs gave little gifts. He did well. He did start coughing about halfway through, though. He's been dealing with a cough for a week or so. He did my favourite song Moonlight and there were beautiful clips of him and the late Ryuichui Sakamoto collaborating. Those were my favourite parts, including Agust D.

He began with Haegeum and Daechwita, but the energy shot up about 1000% on the third song, which is the title track from his first album, Agust D. It gave me a new appreciation of this song.

I have tried not to be fannish about him, but I am. I bought the DDAY album and did a collage in my art notebook with the stickers and the card in the little gift ARMY gave on Saturday night. So this is Fannish 50 #23

Yesterday was jazz appreciation day.

Question: If you like jazz, favourite compositions, artists, or styles?

I tend to favourite what I think is called 'cool jazz.' I tend to prefer instrumentals but I listened to some of Spotify's Jazz Classics and enjoyed this Billie Holiday song, "April in Paris."

And then this one recommended by Wyton Marsalis: Bill Strayhorn "Lush Life." I've included the lyrics because I think they're beautiful. It's such a lovely sad song.

Here's the original ask list.

[personal profile] friendofthejabberwock asked for: orchid ⇢ what’s a song you consider to be perfect?

What a tough question. I'll talk about some songs from different genres (in no order).

1. Purple Rain by Prince. You could argue Red Corvette or Raspberry Beret, and I wouldn't fight you on it, but Purple Rain is my pick.

2. 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton. I love songs with ambient noises (the typewriter) and as a working woman's anthem, I don't think you could do better. I'm also a fan of Hard Candy Christmas.

3. You Never Even Called Me By My Name by David Allen Coe. I was raised in part by my grandmother and the country and western radio station went on at 5 am and went off at bedtime, so country music was (for better or worse) a formative part of my life. This is a classic from that era (originally published the year I was born). Note: this guy is Very Redneck. I had to search for a version without any guitars painted with Confederate flags. The song itself isn't racist, but you know, be aware. It's the only song of his I know.

4. Dis-ease by BTS. Of BTS songs, this is my favourite because it's a Total Package. All seven of the members are Doing Their Thing, and it has an interesting message and it's a bop. 133440 would be my second vote for their ouvre.

5. Rambling Man by the Allman Brothers Band in the Southern rock category.

6. Wild Boys by Duran Duran. Maybe New Moon on Monday or Save a Prayer.

So it's 70's/80's stuff and BTS. That tells you a lot about me.

So this is turning out to be my Halloween playlist, my favourites from all the genres. I've posted this here before but I do so like Rob Zombie's Dragula.

stonepicnicking_okapi: okapi (twopumpkins)
So I've posted classical and guitar and this is (I suppose) the rock novelty genre.
