I need a hardboiled detective icon!

I love hardboiled detectives. My favorite is Phillip Marlowe by Raymond Chandler. Every once and a while I like to write a private investigator AU. I posted one today for Unconventional Courtship. [I finished it! at 3:15 am this morning! I so afraid the mice were going to come out but none did.]

I watched a lot of noir/hardboiled detective films for this, and I did a chapter by chapter analysis of Chandler's Farewell, My Lovely, while listening to an audiobook version by narrated Elliott Gould who does the weariness and wit very well. It includes one of my favorite lines from all of literature:

he looked about as inconspicuous as a tarantula on a slice of angel food

And, of course, I did a collage. I ordered this old Hollywood B detective movie stickers from etsy. They are so cool.

I did not get this up yesterday (on Wordy Wednesday) but this is from The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows so a make-believe word for a common emotion/state (mostly on the sad end of the spectrum).

The mystery of the 5 hour energy

For many years, more than 10, only not when pregnant or breastfeeding, I have drank an energy shot called 5 hour energy, and it has helped me a lot when I needed to remain awake, but two weeks ago, I noticed it was not available in its regular form in any store in my area (where it had normally been available). At my grocery store, I was able to buy a box of Extra Strength (which I have always eschewed because I though it would be too much caffeine and the regular did me just fine).

But the extra strength doesn't work on me. At all. It actually makes me tired. The complete opposite of the regular strength. I've drank 3 bottles (not in a row!) to test it. And the effect is the same (meaning, no effect).

And it is strange that the regular strength was pulled from the shelves of four different stores (grocery stores, drug stores, etc.) on the same week.

Strange, no?

I saw the regular strength might be at Walmart, so one day next week, I am going there (I never go there) and continue to investigate.

Of course, what I've drank to date is probably going to kill me but still...
