It was a difficult weekend as Minor's soccer team lost 0 to 8, Minisculus soccer team lost 6 to 12 and Minor finished last in his two heats at his track meet (400 m and 200 m). I am singularly unequipped to deal with athletic disappointments. I never played sports or team sports as a child and I have difficulty enough dealing with my own disappointments. I just don't know what to say. I don't know how to help them do better and I do feel a tiny bit frustration because we are paying hundreds (in Minisculus case thousands) of dollars for them to play these sports. I bought Minor some track shoes and had to have a cold compress put to my forehead when I saw the price tag. !!! We sat in FREEZING conditions to watch Minor lose Friday night, drove 90 minutes away to watch Minsculus lose on Saturday and another hour to watch Minor not run as fast as his peers on Sunday. A lot of driving and dealing with the elements and parking in odd places. Sigh. And we will do most of it again this coming weekend. Sigh.

But--it's getting warmer! Yay, spring!

3 APR: Bookmobile Day: Have you ever seen a bookmobile?

I have very fond memories of the bookmobile as a child. It parked not far from my aunt's house and it was COLD in the very, very hot summer in South Carolina.

4 APR: Vitamin C Day: What’s your favorite citrus fruit?

I like most citrus and most citrus flavors. In drinks I use lemon power a lot. I eat clementines almost every day. I have only had grapefruit once but it was really good. It was cut in half and sugared and grilled (at a B&B in Oregon a long, long time ago). I have never enjoyed it in any other setting and I tried to replicate it at home and it didn't work.

5 APR: Read a Road Map Day: When’s the last time you read a paper map (real or literary)?

I love maps and floorplans in mystery novels. I have a map of Agatha Christie places. I always print out a paper map when we go hiking.

6 APR: Tartan Day: Is tartan stylish? [a Good Omens reference]

Yes! Aziraphale says so.

7 APR: Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Rwandan Genocide: Do you believe there can be true peace and/or true reconciliation after civil war or another significant national crisis?

The boys' father is Rwandan and survived the genocide. I was in Rwanda at the tenth anniversary of the genocide and I have a lot of doubts about true peace and true reconciliation at a societal level. Individually, I am more hopeful.

8 APR: Draw a Bird Day: In your opinion, what species of bird is easiest to draw? Most of mine look like a cross between a chicken and sparrow.

9 APR: Cherish an Antique Day: What’s the oldest object you own that you cherish? I have a little silver plate I like from my childhood. I do have an embroidery my grandmother did of my birth date and weight but I have complicated memories of my grandmother so I can't say I cherish it. But I've kept it.
