Challenge #11
In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme.
I picked 'writing on the body.' I think it's a trope/device which can express a lot of emotions. I wrote ficlets in four different fandoms: Carmilla, BTS, Sherlock Holmes (ACD), and Venom.
Title: Hands
Fandom: Carmilla [novella by Sheridan le Fanu]
Rating: Gen
Length: 100
Prompt: Hands
Summary: Carmilla leaves Laura a note.
Laura stared in the looking glass. Were it not for the thin sliver of moonlight stealing into the bedroom, she would not have been able to see it. She touched her chest and leaned closer and studied intently part of her which had been exposed by hands not her own. She could not remember the dream. She was not entirely certain that she was not dreaming that very moment, but she did distinguish the rise and fall of her bosom and the pale canvas of her skin and the word which had been carved into, onto, upon that canvas.
MINE
Title: Bumblebee
Fandom: Venom (film)
Rating: Gen
Length: 200
Prompt: Bumblebee
Summary: Eddie goes to a sauna.
Eddie sighed and relaxed onto the thick cedar plank. Somewhere someone poured water on something, and there was an angry hiss. The sweat had begun to form rivulets down his body when the door opened.
Eddie nodded at the newcomer, who returned the greeting and settled down on the plank opposite Eddie.
The silence was eventually broken, and not by Eddie.
“Hey, man, that’s nice ink.”
“Thanks,” said Eddie. He touched the markings on his chest. “My boyfriend’s work.”
“Oh, yeah? Boyfriend, eh? Does he have a studio in the city?” The speaker looked interested and sat up and leaned forward, squinting in the direction of Eddie’s chest. “Man, I don’t have my glasses on. Is that a bumblebee?”
Not exactly.
WOORRRAGH!
“You had to eat him, didn’t you?” whined Eddie a few second later when he was once again, more or less, himself.
He was a bad guy, Eddie. Our research had already confirmed this. You said I could eat the bad guys. And he confused my skilled and realistic rendering of the Ostium Galaxy with a cute garden insect. I did not like that.
“All right, all right,” conceded Eddie. “Let’s go before anyone remembers we were here.”
Title: Surrender
Rating: Gen
Fandom: BTS
Characters: SUGA & jhope
Length: 200
Prompt: Surrender
Summary: SUGA includes a photo he took in his new music video
“What’s so funny?” asked Yoongi as he plopped himself down on his sofa.
“ARMY,” replied Hoseok. “They’re going crazy speculating on whose back it is that one split-second scene in the “Sweet Surrender” music video, the bare back that you scribbled the first line of the second verse on. I told you they would find it. You can’t get anything by them.”
“I wasn’t trying to get anything by them,” retorted Yoongi. “It’s a nice image.”
“But in the beginning, admit it: you were just lazy. You were thinking about work, which you always are, and you were too lazy to grab your phone or a piece of paper and too myopic to use the bedsheet or your own skin.”
“Or maybe I was inspired by the beauty of the scene I couldn’t wait?”
Hoseok shot him a look. “So, you couldn’t reach for a notebook or your phone, but you could find a pen—”
“To be fair, the pen was already in the bed.”
“Yoongi!”
“Sorry. And then I was inspired by the beauty of the scene enough to get my phone and take a photo.”
“Yoongi.”
Yoongi shrugged. “Muse is muse.”
Hoseok blushed and said no more.
Title: Florid
Rating: Gen
Length: 100
Prompt: florid
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (ACD)
Summary: Holmes remembers where he wrote that note! Watson is not amused.
“What on earth, Holmes!?”
Holmes had made a sudden assault on my person, pushing up my shirtsleeve to reveal—much to my surprise and horror—a chemical formal scribbled in ink.
“Ah, yes! That’s where I put it. Now, if you could just hold your arm steady…”
He returned to his work bench, and I restrained myself from forming a fist and aiming at his head.
“You took a severe liberty while I was napping, Holmes! And I don’t want to hear one word from you about my florid use of language. At least I confine my jottings to paper!”
