An empire vast controls the galaxy.
Now, however, is not then. Change’s afoot.
Commencing rogue, the annals shall agree.

In rare confusion, treachery is put.
Long-reaching plans are vengeance served but once.
Long-held beliefs, selfs and ships, melt to soot.

A lone surviving piece of starcraft hunts.
Revenge begins in earnest with a gun.
Yet, so, dark past, cold future now confronts.

Queue struggles, accident, calculation.
Unlikely companions are keys, thorns, shields.
Endgame divides, destroys to perfection.

Severe and severed, the soldier’s quest yields
to quest on, honor-bound, towards fallen’s fields.

I am amazed - so many forms combined together to give such a clear image of this quest.

Cool! And thank you! The book is the first in a science fiction space opera series. It was good, the book, that is, and I was reminded of it by the photo prompt. The hard part was to find a sonnet (I am trying to do all sonnets for the Yahtzee challenge, which would work with the word I wanted to use. All of them are 8 + 6 which wouldn't work for ANCILLARY. So, terza rima sonnet it was.
