The State of the Ficcery: April 2020

What's ahead: May is the Merry Month of Masturbation! (
mmom) I don't think I can manage 31 masturbating fics/ficlets. But here there may be drabbles.
Viewing: I ended up watching the film Knives Out and really liked it. It's so very, very rare that there are ever modern mystery films that are not adaptations of books, so you almost always know who did it. And this was a brand new story with actual clues and fair play and very old fashioned. It was lovely.
I also watched The Pale Horse, which, yeah, is one of the above adaptations; when I have a new set of library request next month, I am going to re-read it because I really don't think it went like that :/
I also re-watched Good Omens which always makes me happy. I love Crowley.

April Word Count: 24,523
Writing: 3 fics for Dick or Treat [2 of which were also for my Jeeves bingo]
The Magic Flute
18 poems featuring 15 different poetic forms [12 of which were for the GYWO Yahtzee picture prompts]
My great disappointment is not making much progress on my Fandom for Oz fic. I have about 1k in a WIP file. I also wrote a prequel fic in the AU (the third of the Dick or Treat fics) but I'd like to be much, much further along (or, like, you know, done). I have a plot but no cool details. Yet.
My minor disappointment is not doing enough poetry reading for National Poetry Month. But I remind myself it is always Poetry Month in a poet's heart, so I will just keep going and damn the calendar.
Personal: Just a general sense of disappointment in myself. Still fat. Still slow and rather sloppy on many fronts. I only managed to wake up early 1 morning this month. I feel like so much progress was lost on that, and I haven't been able to reclaim it. I have thought about cutting (and I finally bought new supplies on Monday) but have not yet succumbed.
Minor is doing online learning in earnest now, so there's no more pressure to think up his curricula but increased pressure to get him to stay on task and keep up with the assignments and various meetings. But I took a walk with him one day and he admitted to being the victim of bullying (back in February) which I didn't know anything about. And I also found out that sometimes he just mouths the words in chorus (because he's tired of repeating the song?!). So I am discovering (every day, or so it seems) disturbing things I didn't know about him.
Minisculus is still a cutie. And the flat is clean. And I went to 3 stores on Monday (with mask and gloves on) and got supplies for at least 2 weeks (I hope).

Date: 2020-04-30 09:09 pm (UTC)It's disconcerting to find out things about our kids that we didn't know. I'm glad he's telling you now, though.

Date: 2020-04-30 09:19 pm (UTC)Sorry to hear about Minor's troubles, but glad he's been able to tell you. I fully sympathise with mouthing words - sometimes it feels like there's overkill and a need to move onto a different song.

Date: 2020-04-30 09:55 pm (UTC)Hahahaha! The boys' father and I have never participated in a chorus so we don't know but I am going to mention to that tonight at dinner. He (the boys' father) and I were horrified and angry with Minor about not taking it seriously (it came out when his online assignment was to watch their Christmas performance and offer a thoughtful critique and Minor's first positive comment was 'I sang the whole time.') but perhaps we were too harsh. We have no point of reference. I just don't want him signing up for something extra just to get out of regular classes (which is what happens in their school's chorus).

Date: 2020-05-01 03:14 am (UTC)HOW do you manage to write so much? I know I've remarked on this. And so much of it is SO good! I can barely crank out a paragraph.

Date: 2020-05-01 03:07 pm (UTC)Ha! I suppose it's relative. I don't feel like I did as much as I should this month, but that's mainly stress about my auction fic.
