I hope they have grown on you a bit, though I agree I find them too modern as well. I guess with the final one you use it as inspiration for old gunpowder and fireworks in the past?

I have found a way to make three of them work, but I have also hit a kind of writer's block (maybe writer's sludge, it's more like lethargy than a block), so have not made any progress yet.
