Day 5: Compare and/or contrast your very first fandom obsession and your very latest fandom obsession.
There is only about 8 years between my first and current obsessions. I only learned of fanfic and shipping in 2011 and started writing my own 2 years later.
BBC Sherlock (my first fandom) is part of a fandom that stretches back more than 100 years. There have been many adaptations and the characters are known around the world. It taught me a lot about canon and how fans interact with canon. I suspect that the way BBC Sherlock fans interact with the show's creator is probably similar to how fans reacted to ACD. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
The Old Guard is a film based on a comic book that is only 4 years old. So, it's a different experience of canon and the shear volume and interest is much smaller.
But now I have a ficcing and shipping mindset and when I read or see something new or interesting, I often check out AO3 and see if there is fic. I wouldn't have done that 9 years ago.
