Into the Void

So yesterday the boys and I went to the car to run errands and I noticed the glove compartment was open and the car manual was on the passenger's seat and the envelope which contained all the car documents [registration, insurance card, maintenance receipts, etc.] was missing. I searched and couldn't find it. I had left the doors of the car unlocked and it had been sitting in front of the apartment unused since midday Tuesday. Nothing was damaged. I keep change in the car. It was still there.

I requested and re-printed the registration and insurance card. Luckily, the title itself I kept inside the apartment in a folder. I notified the apartment office, the insurance company, and filed an incident report with the police. I also got an anti-identity theft policy from the insurance company.

Now I notice my glasses are missing [I only use them to drive. I had a pair of sunglasses and regular glasses. The sunglasses I have.] Did someone take them, too? Or are they simply lost? I don't know.

Makes me feel anxious and nervous. Those documents have no value except to me. And most of them are just rubbish. And I don't know if the glasses were part of it or not. I don't use them a lot during the summer (I use my sunglasses), and I don't even remember if they were in that car or not. Makes me think I'm going crazy, but I've looked for the glasses everywhere and can't find them.

This is the second incident of things happening to this car while parked in front of the apartment. Last year, thieves stole the whole exhaust system from under the car!

Ugh!

Other than that, things are fine. :)

Decidedly unpleasant. I suppose someone might try to use the documents to process a fraudulent insurance claim. But what they'd want your glasses for is beyond me.

Yeah, and maybe the glasses are lost (?). The uncertainty isn't fun. I often keep them in the car but I can't swear they were there. And I suppose it is possible I lost them somewhere else.

Yeah, I bought a $25 anti-identity theft policy from the insurance company just in case. There was change in the car, coins, but that wasn't touched.

Last year, thieves stole the whole exhaust system but that had a value because of the metal the old systems are made with. This doesn't seem to have any sense at all. And, of course, I feel wretched for leaving the car unlocked but, you know, motherhood is like that.

Oh, that’s horrible and unsettling for you. And odd regarding the glasses.

I haven't found the glasses so I assume they're gone, too. I have an appointment on Monday for an eye exam to get a new pair, but it is going to be very expensive and it's seems like such a pointless crime.
