Into the Void

The boys' father wants Minisculus to get his First Communion so I asked him if he wanted me to sign him up for Religious Education classes [in my day it was called CCD and the Church actually calls it now Faith Formation, but whatever] for the autumn because the church across the street requires the kids to go to a year of classes before the communion classes (which is usually 2nd grade).

This time (as opposed to Minor's time) the forms were online so it was less triggering for me. I really hate dealing with the Church, and I had swore that the boys' father would have to deal with them if he wanted the boys to participate, but of course he's halfway around the world. I told him he owed me BIG TIME for it.

Minor hasn't gone to any classes since his First Communion. In fact, the last time we even went to church was his First Communion last summer.

But.

The funny part is that I had a conversation with Minisculus the other day and he was asking me about Aziraphale and Crowley and he asked me about angels and demons and, you know, I am just waiting for him to bring up Aziraphale in class! Moms have to get their kicks somewhere. :)

Well done you for getting him signed up. Do you have to sit with Minisculus during classes as well?

Thanks. No, I drop him off at the church across the street for 90 minutes on Sunday. It starts sometime in September. There was a Home Schooling option where we could've done the lessons at home (which I definitely don't want to do and there's no guarantee the boys' father will be at home to take charge) and then have to meet with other families doing the same for 5 events. None of that appealed.

Yes! And when he brings up Crowley, that will be another interesting discussion...I mean, Minisculus told me he has Aziraphale on one shoulder and Crowley on the other. And Jesus is in the Good Omens TV version so...it's all a bit muddled.

You know, I was slightly surprised they put Jesus in the show, I thought they might skip over that bit, but no, they went for it.

It's funny, a memory from my elder nephew's childhood just popped into my head - his own overlap between religion and fandom ^__^ He's in his early 20s now, but when he was about 7 or 8, he attended some Sunday school lessons. In one of the lessons the teacher asked if anyone knew what "resurrection" meant. My nephew's hand shot up and he answered, "Coming back to life!" And of course everyone was very impressed that this little boy knew such a big word. He was telling me about all this later in his grandmother's car, and then he explained how he knew the definition of the word. It was because he'd been watching "Resurrection of the Daleks" on video with us at me and my sister's house ^____^ (It's a Fifth Doctor adventure and my sort of era ^_^)

Oh that's funny! I like that. It is funny what odd words they pick up beyond their years.

Minisculus confused the words footprints and coffins for a while to my amusement but he's got those straight now.
