My sister, who is a former nurse in her mid-50s, is a proud gamer! I think it's hilarious (and kind of adorable). He could be one of those multimillionaire ones! You never know... ;)

Oh, yes? That's interesting. It is hilarious. Even more so because we don't play video games and we don't have anything but a Wii set, but we are thinking about getting the boys their first Nintendo for Christmas (I don't know if it will happen or not. Their father has certain views on the subject). So, who knows? This is the first Minisculus has mentioned of his ambition :)

Youngest has said he wants to be a gamer on YouTube/Twitch when he grows up. It's a bit like me wanting to be a rock star mumble years ago -- kids see the people who've made it big doing this thing that they think is cool anyway, and they want to do that too; they don't learn until later that most bands/streaming gamers don't make any money at it.

The rock star analogy is a good one to help put it in perspective for me. It made me feel very old in that I really don't know much about the online gaming world at all. And it seems a bit ridiculous to me to enjoy watching someone else play a video game on Youtube, but my boys do. But I suppose it's like a lot of things to previous generations.

Really? You don't know how relieved that makes me feel. I was a bit stunned when I first looked at the paper. A friend in comments above mentioned it was like wanting to be a rock star and that made me feel better too. The generational gap was gaping wide for a moment.

Yes…seemed to equate future work with current pastimes…games much less sophisticated then, and pc based…and limits on time spent on them…but still…
One of younger son’s friends does now work on line overseeing various games…simply working in his home till the wee small hours…a nice lad, but this lifestyle lost its appeal to my son…thankfully:-) He still plays games…but prefers the board games now, with others…purely as an occasional pastime:-)
