My poem: Rhubarb Sonnet: Gen

Note: I was intrigued about 'the Rhubarb triangle' in Yorkshire where they force-grown rhubarb in the dark in barns and it makes noise as it grows. Here an article for anyone interested in learning more.

a sea of darkness dabbed with isles of light
in waves and waves vast, cultivars in states.
the germinating seeds bemoan their plight
and pink stalks pop their growing pains in spates

cacophony of forced cultivation
ten frosts must pass before a harvest’s nigh
deprived of sun, the prized generation
will snap and fizz and sighs a reck’ning sigh

demanding nothing too warm nor too wet
the fickle fruit is coaxed from root to leaf
unearthly world, ingathering beget
a bounty, a vegetable leitmotif

a subtle trove once weighed against pure gold
a God’s great gift which crumbles sweet and bold

!!! Never heard about forced rhubarb before, so thank you for both education and entertainment-- lovely poem! It's very fitting for this mysterious way of treating the plant. And the gin sounds like something I'd really like to taste. :D Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for your kind words, and you're very welcome for the edification. I was looking interesting facts about seasonal fruits and thought I remembered rhubarb was harvested in the winter, but it turns out it's only this forced kind. I too would like to try the gin.

That's super interesting! Here, rhubarb season is actually late spring, I think you stop harvesting them around St John's Eve, afterwards the amount of oxalic acid would be too much or something. :)

I listened to Jin's OST and am very proud of him! It's not really my kind of song (I'm not really a power ballad kind of gal) but I got Map of the Soul: 7 CD at the library and listened to it 'Moon' and really liked it. It's very catchy and sweet.

FYI, I have an idea for a film noir/mystery NamJin + ensemble cast fic with Jin in the femme fatale role. As soon as I can clear my WIPs, I am going to be on it! Or maybe before because, you know, New and Shiny.
