Challenge #2
In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.
Crafting
1. Assemble a miniature coffee shop.
I bought myself this kit for Christmas 2020 and never advanced past step 2, so my goal is to assemble it by 12/31/22. I am designating Sundays for this activity and started yesterday. I realised the reason I abandoned it last year is that the barstools (step 2) are very confusing to make, so I skipped the second one and vowed to come back to it at the end or simply purchase miniature barstools that will do. I did the first cabinet yesterday [in the left of the photo] Long-time friends know that I did a miniature library two years ago [in the right of the photo]. By the way, I do not recommend this kit brand. The instructions and organization of pieces is horrible.

2. Collage/Art Journaling
Create at least two collage/art journal pages a month.
After watch a ton of tiktok compliations of asmr journaling, I decided to try my hand at it. I did my first one [using a gorgeous Christmas card I received and the washi tape I allowed into my home].
First of all, my journal notebook is lovely, very vintage feel and thick pages.

Second, my first attempt, done on Saturday, isn't very fancy at all, but I impulse-bought a lot of supplies that are en route :) I fear the washi tape monster has claimed me for its own.

Learning
1. Learn enough Korean to sing along with my favourite BTS songs.
I am on Lesson #5 of the Go Billy series on Youtube. I like him. Hangul, the Korean alphabet, is difficult (for me). The only thing I've found that helps is using BTS members' names as guides, and unfortunately, they don't cover the whole alphabet.
2. Learn to juggle.
I found a juggling kit in storage when I was cleaning and want to give it a go. I am pushing this until February because I want to get settled into the other things first.
These are the only ones I want to talk about. I also want to lose weight and eat at least one vegetable a day. I am a member of GYWO comm and have a yearly 250,000 word count goal and a reading bingo of 25 squares. I'd like to reduce screen compulsion and improve the quality of my meditation (I meditation daily) and attend the online fellowship group sponsored by the spiritual centre I am a member of (I did attend their Day of Peace yesterday). I am always full of Self-Improvement at the beginning of the year. We'll see how long it lasts.

Date: 2022-01-04 12:25 am (UTC)Loving the collage layering, and that is a very pretty journal.
I forgot to add my Korean goal to my list... sigh. *g* I have the same goal: being able to sing along without making up words! ;D
Sending lots of luck your way. :)

Date: 2022-01-04 01:07 am (UTC)The journal is another Barnes & Noble find! The first page isn't very exciting but I really liked the card so I didn't want to cover it up too much. My next one will be more adventurous. I am tidying my old photos/postcards and I found some postcards that will do as ephemera (as the tiktokers say). I realized, too, that I can rip the pages out of any book I want to get rid of. So there are avenues to explore :)
I thought about you today when I read about Mister Jin and his $100 pajamas. I remembered your comment and thought, 'You don't just need a money tree, you need a money FOREST!'
Speaking of which, my Korean Vogue & GQ arrived. They are BRICKS. OMG! I have never ordered something like it and was surprised. I am also sneaking it in the apartment because I really don't want my sons' father asking too many questions about the credit card statement this month (sigh).
I just realized there is a translate button on the weverse (duh, there really needs to be an ARMY orientation for non-Kpop fans) but it isn't good because, for example, it says Mister Suga's latest message was ISOLATE! which is sort of the opposite of what he was saying (that he was out of quarantine), so, you know, I don't expect to be fluent or even conversational but I do want a basic understanding.
I made some flashcards today with the alphabet and put the members' names beside some of the letters. But we need more members with unusual names! Not everything is Kim! :)

Date: 2022-01-04 01:47 am (UTC)The pajamas are going on sale in 15 minutes and I still haven't figured out if I should buy them. I think they only go to a size 10, which will be the decision-maker. (I will NEVER fit into a size 10.) (Edit: I had the too-small pajamas in my cart, but deleted it before I lost my mind. They are now sold out in the style I liked. PHEW.)
I am happy that I'm the only one looking at my credit card statements. *G*
Weverse is notorious for absurd mistranslations. I check Twitter for more accurate ones. The translators there are good! ARMY bootcamp would be good. (There probably ARE some, but we'd need a bootcamp to find them.)
YAY, flashcards!! I use some too! Not everything is Kim! :D

Date: 2022-01-04 01:23 am (UTC)The journal is so pretty and so is the page you made! I started using washi tape recently; the washi tape monster is irresistible.
Good luck on your other goals, too! I'm trying to learn Korean a little bit, so I'm going to bookmark that series.

Date: 2022-01-04 01:37 am (UTC)I love the journal. Thank you! A little plain but it is a first attempt and I didn't really want to cover up the card. I know, right? Washi tape is such a temptation. I also want to try wax seals but I know that's another rabbit hole so I am holding myself back from going bankrupt.
I like Go Billy. He has a friendly, practical attitude. I am American so it is helpful to have an American (who definitely knows his stuff) explaining it to me because he knows where the difficulties might lie for a very, very beginner like me. But he claims you can learn Hangul in a couple of hours (?!) and I think it's going to take me a lot longer :). I've gone over lessons 2-5 several times.

Date: 2022-01-04 02:39 am (UTC)I've mostly memorized what Hangul letters correspond to what romanization, but I haven't figured out the pronunciation, so I think listening to some videos will help. When I try to sound things out, I'm sure I'm butchering the words so badly :D

Date: 2022-01-04 02:53 am (UTC)Oh, congrats! I know romanization is not a great thing but in the very beginning, it's got to sound like SOMETHING, yeah? Good luck!

Date: 2022-01-04 02:29 pm (UTC)The cabinet didn't look as bad as I thought once the glue had dried.
Thanks! I will branch out very soon. I do wish the boys will go back to school (they are out today and were out yesterday due to snow and ice).

Thoughts
Date: 2022-01-05 04:47 am (UTC)That is gorgeous. Too bad the instructions sucked.
>> Learn to juggle.<<
Consider monthly goals. Like the coffee shop could be January and juggling February, similar to how you have it set up now. You could fill in some of your other goals in different months. It's easier to do a thing for a month than a year. If you like it, you can also do it longer.
