Today [29 Jan] is National Puzzle Day in the US, so I challenge everyone to do some kind of puzzle. Jigsaw, crossword, what happened to the extra pair of scissors I used to own?, whatever.

As for me, I love puzzles.

One, I did a 800-word, gen-rated ficlet of spinster sleuth Miss Marple [The Puzzling Wallpaper] inspired by the most recent jigsaw puzzle I completed.



Yesterday we had an inch of snow, and snow is prime puzzling weather. I sorted a puzzle called Old Martha's Vineyard, which I'll be working on today.

And I did some conspicuous consumption last night. My sister gave me a gift card to Puzzle Warehouse, and so I thought I would go shopping. I got four puzzles including an Advent series for next Christmas. But the pick of the litter was a wonderfully macabre one by Edward Gorey called Baby Toss which I am going to save for my birthday.

I have added the two puzzle sites to my bookmarks, although I really don't need any extra distractions!

Yes, Baby Toss will be for my birthday and there was a set of 12 for Advent for Christmas (the same artist who did the Havana and New York City and Japanese garden puzzles I did last year). The other two are a 500-piece artistic coffee montage in nice colours (so I and Kandinsky's Dots (a modern art piece). So it's a good mix, and I should be okay for a while. I have the one I'm just beginning now, too.

Yes, it's her day! I also saw a few sales on puzzle sites, so she may be able to pick up a deal if she needs a new one.

I have a great jigsaw puzzle on my iPhone I play every day called Magic Puzzles :)

It wasn't too bad. The greatest challenge is that the top of the box wasn't a complete picture of the puzzle and there was a map inside, so I had to guess in some parts.

I love playing Sudoku online sometimes, and this is a fun excuse to fill a number block!

haha, I have managed to loose a small cup full of felt tip pens. I noticed them not being anywhere obvious a few days ago. I shall start the hunt seriously today!

Coincidentally, I've been thinking of picking up my logic puzzle book over the last few days. This is the kick in the butt I needed to pick a puzzle and do it! (And thanks for the link—I love doing logic puzzles online, too.)

I have got quite obsessed with wordle recently. Because it's brain-challenging and thinky, but it's also one challenge a day, so it can't steal my life.

Good one for if you've only got a little bit of time :)

Oh, I just tried wordle and love it, too! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Very fun and (as you say) manageable from a time-sucking perspective.

Games I can't fall into for hours on end are good for me (although today's wordle was a swine; I only just got it right on the last guess!).
