Bloodstone: Colour Poem

green jasper with inclusions of red hematite
sweet ornamental bridge; picturesque wooden arch
chance splatter, bright droplets against darkest context
garden berries for birds and playing tea party
determined thud of sturdy boots on solid planks
rumbling, tumbling, grumbling of polishing barrel
sudden rustle-swish of forest interloper
hard, splintered, at stern angles, flecks of chemicals
cool, engraving, inviting intaglio
bitter burn upon curious, dared and daring, tongues
nature’s velvet with spider veins of unstitched seams
smooth, inviting anxious rubbing, rubbing, rubbing
pebbles crushed between tiny fingers, tiny beaks
stone of Babylon, heliotrope, and bloodstone

Thank you! I don't know why I'm on a poetry kick at the moment, but I am. I like that colour poem format we did back in the day and sort of adapted it to this pairing of dark green and red. I was surprised at how many stock photos I could find that fit that pairing but there were plenty to choose from. Even though it's red and green, it doesn't look Christmasy, does it?

I don't know who it is. It was just among the stock photos in the program I used to do the moodboard, but I have seen Byzantine ones and Roman ones on auction sites.

Aw, thanks. I use a online program at befunky.com to make the moodboard and you can search their stock photo archives. Some of those come from search for 'bloodstone' and some are from simply googling bloodstone and filtering just for images. I was surprised, however, when I put in (the stock photo search) 'dark green and red' that a lot of very nice photos (the four that are not gems) were the results. I mean, it was just what I wanted and I wasn't thinking my search would be helpful at all. So there. Befunky is also what I use to do my book bingo board (putting the tiny book covers over the squares).
