stonepicnicking_okapiSo part of me feels bad for posting the same song I did back at the end of May. And it's a BTS song. But, hey, it's my journal and it's one of my favourite songs, period. BTS did a final concert on Saturday in Busan (S. Korea) as part of Busan's bid to host the World Expo in 2030. And this morning BTS announced their members are starting their military service and will reunite in 2025 when all 7 have completed their time. I tried to watch the concert on Saturday (at 5 am my time!) but the system crashed. But as always, the pirates didn't let me down and I was able to watch it later. I've had a lot of mixed feelings about BTS since the FESTA dinner in June, but I have to say this performance of Cypher 3 made me weep. They say this is among the songs they're 'retiring,' e.g., they won't be playing live again. Logically, it makes sense because it's difficult to rap a clapback when you're thirty-something Grammy nominated millionaires. Nevertheless, they KILLED it. The three sounded just the way they should. It was beautiful, and SUGA (Min Yoongi) finally (FINALLY!!) stopped taking pretty pictures of himself and remembered how to be Agust D (his rap persona). Really, the way he raps and holds himself and moves, it is so wonderful to watch. RM and j-hope too, they look Like They're Supposed To (whatever that means to my mind). They're performing at their best and showing the best of each's individual rapping style. I really, really love that the uncertainty of the future and their wealth and fame and all the rest of it hasn't prevented them from connecting to the part of their personas which is my favourite. Anyway, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings and there won't be more performances for years so here it is.

Date: 2022-10-18 01:48 am (UTC)I watched maybe half of Saturday, but I finally gave up - so annoying!! I missed this one! I need to make time to piece together the whole thing from YouTube recordings. ;)
I feel very proud of them for not waiting around for the government to make the military decision for them. And if this current "hiatus" is any indication, I still won't be able to keep up with all the activity while they're away. (Not to mention all the freaking money I keep spending! arrrgh... )

So an update on my In the Seom drama. Please don't be offended but they are cycling through which member is your 'comfort' member when you're losing a lot. And I have to say Kim Seokjin is not really the most comforting creature. I keep hoping they'll go back to Jimin as chief comforter. Jin says stuff like 'some days are bad.' And I'm like...uh...is that it? In perspective, Jimin says stuff like 'I'll stay by your side until you make it through.' 'Your smile warms my heart' really sweet stuff and the contrast is just stark. Then it moved on to SUGA and he greets you 'I'm glad we get to spend another day together' over and over the same thing. RM was better at it. It's just funny how awful Jim is at it. He greets you by saying 'Over here!' MWAH! I got the pass that allows me to win them raincoats and I got 'give it to me' SUGA outfit because I am a sucker for the baseball cap with the earrings hanging from the brim. I will join you in ARMY debtor's prison. I am glad the boys' father is in Kenya!!
