I just watched a Youtube video about setting up a morning routine, and it recommended playing a morning playlist, so here's a question:

If you had a morning playlist, what song(s) or type of music would be on it?

Mine would probably have a lot of high-energy folk rock and pirate metal.

The song my morning alarm plays is Great Big Sea's "When I Am King", in large part because the first words of the song are "Wake up", but it's also a very peppy song.

I love the infinite variety of Schtick Metal—epic fantasy metal and monster metal and historical metal and space metal and cowboy metal; whatever it is, somebody seems to have formed a concept metal band about it.

One go-to band for pirate metal is Alestorm; they’re Scottish, which gives them an inherent virtuosity in hilarious profanity. I sent this song of theirs to my niece the day after the school board she works for refused to cancel school, forcing her to sit out a hurricane with her eighteen first-grade pupils; fortunately, damage here was fairly slight and everyone made it home all right.

My thought was that Alestorm might be expressing her opinion of the school board.

Yep, Alestorm was the main one that came to my mind too, and yes, I have had that particular song going through my head a lot lately.

This one's a less NSFW song but still very much their style:

Depends on whether I need to wake up quickly, or if I want to ease into the day.

80s boppy pop. Nothing that requires any emotional investment, but has a comfort feel - I'm thinking Cyndi Lauper, Wham!, Bananarama. But also Jimmy Barnes, so, shading into rock. But I can see that I'd probably change it regularly.

So really, what was on the radio when I was a kid/teenager, and the radio went on when we got up in the morning.

Walking on Sunshine is a great example of the kind of thing. I was going to attribute it to a specific morning radio announcers music preferences, but went and did some poking at the internet, and apparently they only took over the show in 1984, which is at least four years after I started actually paying attention to the radio in the morning -- I can point at specific news / events from 1980 that I specifically remember, which is what I'm basing my estimate on.

I have something adjacent to this in that my alarm clock is set to turn on the radio, so I wake up to classical music every morning. (it was tuned to NPR before, but the news was stressing me out 😅)

if I created an actual morning playlist, I think it might be light pop-y music. I like the unpredictability of the radio though!
