What I'm Listening to: Good Omens

I finished listening to Martin Jarvis narrating Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, so now I know what all the gifs are about. But Crowley and Aziraphale are much less of the plot than the internet lead me to believe. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. I liked Crowley best, especially Crowley and his house plants. And I did enjoy the drunken conversation he and Aziraphale have at toward the beginning of the book. Martin Jarvis is a first-rate narrator (he did some of the Jeeves stories and while not my fave, he is still no slouch). I did like his Aziraphale voice. So at some point (next month), I will be doing a fic or ficlet as part of 100 fandoms. I don't know if I'll ever be tempted to watch the TV show, I've seen enough of the gifs to satisfy me about the slash part, but I'm glad I read the book.

I've only read the book, not seen the tv version yet - it was on Amazon which we don't have, supposedly coming to the BBC (who co-funded but still have to wait 6 months) and from what I can tell the emphasis changes.

Yeah, I try not give Amazon any more money than I can help. But it was entertaining. I liked ol' Agnes Nutter.

I’m glad I read/listened to the book before watching the TV show. It made the show more enjoyable to see how they integrated things and all of the lovely details they added.
I think we listened to the same audiobook version and I also thought it was well done.

I felt the book needed more Aziraphale and Crowley (The show fixes this part). I didn’t like how it ended or how A and C were treated at the end. I also found it a touch confusing. But, overall I liked it and would read it again.

Cool! I probably won't read it again (after I eventually do my fic of it for 100 fandoms), but I enjoyed it, too. I liked Crowley and Aziraphale, and I can understand why a TV version would give them a bigger role.

Heh, it must have been a bit surreal to go to the book after consuming the show mainly via gif. I love both but they are... different.

Well, I wanted to add it to my 100 Fandoms challenge. It seemed like an easy add because there's so much of it going around the internets. I don't like it enough to spend money on seeing the whole show (certainly not giving money to Amazon), but if one day my library gets a copy of the show, I'll probably get on the waiting list and check it out. I mean, all I see on the tumblrs and what not (I don't have a tumblr but you know Sherlock or former Sherlock tumblrs) is Crowley and Aziraphale and they're not even half the book. I know they eat at the Ritz, I know Crowley magics a stain off Aziraphale's coat, I know Aziraphale covering Crowley with his wing. That's about it! But the tone of the book is good--if a bit smarmy with messages about humanity and what not--and they like to do that thing that Moffatt and Gatiss do by telling you how clever they are, but they're less obnoxious about it than Gatiss and Moffat.
