Title: The zephyr in the old hotel
Fandom: Inception
Rating: Teen
Poetic form: free verse
Length: 183
Prompt: zephyr
Inspired by: these images of old hotels.
a ribbon breeze curls through the old hotel
this place, a perpendicular study
in shades of olive, beige, and coffee stain
full vacancy fills retro corridors
a zephyr, darling, check your thesaurus
it’s only a dream, you are but a piece
a period piece, like chrome and leather
and polished wood, and patterns on carpet
you’re a piece, too, Eames, a real piece of work!
and comparing me to hideous shag
in dull designs isn’t the flattery
you think it is—if you’re thinking at all!
a hideous shag? not an accusation
I’d ever level at you, one who won’t
waste a slim ounce of creativity
on our clandestine dreamscape rendezvous
why be clever when you can just be good?
why be charming when you can be polite?
the unobtrusive sunlight filters in,
making polished Oxfords shine handsomely
this merry chase is becoming tiresome
when will this world-weary expatriate
be reunited with his favourite
stick-in-the mud? Arthur, where are you?
I’m early, as usual, and you’re late
as always, follow the breeze, it’ll lead you
it’s a zephyr, darling, oh, there you are
