Question of the Day: Home Away From Home

questionoftheday asks: Where is your home away from home?

My answer:

The public library and the Y.


The two places outside of home where I spend the most time are the public library and the Y.

The public library is nice because it is free and there's no expectation of buying something; there are always lots of people of different races, ages, backgrounds there; it's comfortable; there are lots of things for the kids: toys, tablets, and videos as well as books; lots of parking and easy to get in and get out of.

But I never go to the library by myself because my brain only allows me to leave to flat to 1. Take Care of the Kids and 2. Try Not to Be Fat. So I can go to the Y and be in the Y by myself without any guilt or other negative self-talk. But like the library, the Y is full of people of different backgrounds doing a lot of different things. And there is daycare and swimming lessons and even a game room with ping pong and fooseball to do with the kids. And the staff, like the library, are very kind and helpful people. And they make it clear that everyone is welcome.

Yes and I realized in answering the question there were a lot of similarities between the two.
