Crafts: Mini Library (aka Mi laberinto): the furniture

I received the DIY Miniature Models Kit: Harper's Library for Christmas.

For reasons I'll explain later, I've nicknamed it 'mi laberinto' (my labyrinth) after the collection of short stories by Jorge Luis Borges called Labyrinths.

I've developed a great appreciation for carpenters and upholsterers. Here are most of the furniture. My original photos (sent to my sister) used a bottle of 5 hour energy but I realized most of the people looking at this won't know how tall a bottle of 5 hour energy is, so I found the most internationally-recognizable thing in the house as reference.

The chair looks very shabby, but it's the best I could do. I am using tacky glue. The drawers and doors on the cabinets don't work. They're just for show. But I did have to make the handles and the fixtures for the handles. And, of course, put all the shelves and sides and legs together. I made the little basket and lined it with the green fabric and rolled the little rolls of paper (they must be wrapping paper because I'm too poor to ever own a house, so wallpaper is out of the question, unless, you know, it's like the Yellow Wallpaper and trying to drive me mad).

The giant Heineken bottle for scale cracked me up. And the tiny furniture makes me squeal with delight. I love the basket.

I assume folks overseas will know how big a bottle of Heineken is. Perhaps not.

The instructions say to glue the apples in the fruit bowl (which I had glue the two parts and use tweezers because they were just so tiny), but I figured I might want to put other tiny things in my fruit bowl, so they aren't glued.

This looks fun and should definitely be satisfying once you complete it. Also, a shabby looking chair would look perfectly appropriate in a cozy library: plenty of people must have sat in it enjoying a good book. :-)
