Miss Marple took a slow lap around the garden, breathing in the delicious scent of rain on soil, and wondered if she loved anything, or anyone, as much as she loved this place. She loved the peace when there was peace. She loved the turmoil when there was turmoil. She loved the ways it never changed and the ways it never ceased to change. She felt as if she had known the whole world by knowing her home. Even dear Raymond had once observed that her house suited her. So did her garden and her village of Saint Mary Meade.
