I took the boys to the library and the high school art club was selling their works outside. I forgot to ask the name of the artist, however, and it isn't signed.

I recently finished Hokusai's Landscapes, a coffee table book, with lots of wonderful works by Hokusai, the most famous (I think?) Japanese artist in the West. Best known for The Great Wave off Kanagawa, which I actually have as a cross stitch pattern in my little cross stitch art book. He also did The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife, which should be inspiration to all of us tentacle smut-peddlers. I photocopied about 20 pages from the book for my inspiration collection and these two were among them.

In reading Daily Rituals: How Artists Work by Mason Curry, I discovered Joseph Cornell, an artist who made shadowboxes out of found objects. I find his work interesting. It appeals to the miniaturist as well as the poet. Wikipedia includes this quote about him. And links to haptic poetry from his page, which I like.

Somewhere in the city of New York there are four or five still-unknown objects that belong together. Once together they'll make a work of art. That's Cornell's premise, his metaphysics, and his religion...

If I ever go back to museums, I shall seek him out.
